Homemade aluminum foil adhesive

Does anyone know of a good homemade adhesive for using aluminum foil? The BMF brand is pricy and i need a lot for 1/24 scale aircraft

go to Micheal’s craft store and get something called metal leaf adhesive size,it has mona lisa on the bottle (2 oz.) it’s pretty cheap and works good

Can’t you just spray the model with Alclad II?

I have seen some extraordinary works done with Alclad but I do have to say that there is nothing like to look of real aluminum when you want an aluminum skin. When done well it really looks great and worth the effort. This was at MosquitoCon last w/e and really stood out in my opinion. The builder’s tip was to use the cheapest off brand of foil you can find because it will probably be the thinnest. The model is 1/72 btw.

I agree with wing_nut. I have used BMF and you can’t beat it. The prep required for Alclad and BMF is relative so if you want the real thing, go for it.

Vielen Dank Kamarad,
I have such a venue at close range, so I will trot down there and make a purchase.
Reynolds heavy duty foil is indeed a thicker gage than some “store brand” foil, so it does pay to check the lower shelves. Thanks again.

3M ReMount or 3M Photo Mount spray adhesive is what you need. Spray the mounting glue on the aluminum. Then pour some lacquer thinner in the center of the aluminum. Spread the thinner around the aluminum with cardboard until you get a consistency of honey. Let the glue dry for around 15 minutes and the aluminum sheet is ready for the model. The homebrew foil is just as good as the store bought stuff. You want to buy the cheap and thin foil. I haven’t bought adhesive foil in years.

Thanks for your great tip. I once tried just using the 3M brand sprayment and it came out almost like silly string. All the lumps and ridges this caused came out as terrible texture even after burnishing. Never thought about thinning it.
