Holden HX Sandman Overlander Panel Van

Hi all,

im new to this site, but have been scratch building for a couple years now. I have been scratch building in 1/0 scale as Im also an RC fan and most of my cars etc are 1/10 scale.

im originally from the West Indies ( I now live in NY, USA), and I used to own a Holden Kingswood SL sedan back in the day. I have always wanted a Kingswood station wagon but could never find one in good condition. Fast forward years later to to a few years ago, when I found out about the ‘Overlander’ version of these cars so I decided to build a scale one. Then I discovered the Panel Vans and fell head over heels for them…especially the Sandman versions.

So I started this build about 2 1/2 years ago and now it’s almost ready for paint…so I thought that I will share this with you guys…!

Here’s a link to the build…

Hello!

Some serious scratchbuilding here! Congratualtions! When I have been to Australia in 1996/97 I admired all those restored Holden Utes there - very nice cars. Good luck with your build and have a nice day

Hey thanks Pawel![:D]

Very nice!

Hey thanks Jim!

The memories of growing up as a kid in Australia in the 70’s come flooding back looking at your Build. Every Teenage Boy wanted to have a Sandman as their first Ride after getting their Liscence. Great work so far and loving it…Cheers mark

Hey thanks Mark!

great job so far! can’t wait to see the rest of the build.

Unusual screen-name but all the better to know you by . I gotta say , What a beautiful Blend of an 80s MonteCarlo , Pinto wagon and a 77 Grand Marquis . I have tried to tell folks around here that they were unusually designed and different autos .

No one seemed to believe me .I have followed the Australian " Ute " scene since the late 60s . Nice , No , Awesome job ! I like your framing and interior work especially . T.B.

Thanks man!

Hey guys…another small :update:

Go the body primed in white…taped it off and painted the master cylinder and blower thingy in black…will chrome the master cylinder but leave the vacuum booster in black…will also chrome the blower motor but leave the blower box in black… Hoping I can get this done tonight… the next time I will have to make these ‘bolt ons’ so it can be painted separately, so no need for all the taping etc…was a nightmare to get the black sprayed on…
Once I get this done and it dries out will, need to wet sand the white primer and then tape off the area around the door frame and get it painted black, as well as tape off the taillight area and lay down the chrome…
Then finally start laying down the orange…

Anywho…some pics…

Got another small :update:

Laid down the chrome and buffed it a bit …as well as I could anyway, considering how cramped it is to get the corners …lol.
Gonna have to do some tidying up along the edges where the black looks jagged, before taping off to lay down the body color…hoping that the engine will partially obscure it as well…lol…

Anywho…some pics…Watcha think? Will get some daylight pics tomorrow before I head out to work…
