Hobbycraft Beech C-45H 1 / 72

The kit is a fairly simple build. Nice parts fit, and good clear parts. The windshield frames are a little tricky to paint as they are not raised very much and a little difficult to tape. The paint scheme took quite a bit of time. More than I expected.

Looks great. What kind of paint did you use for the NMF?

#12Wings., the finish was Alclad with a black base of Floquil Gloss Black. I do not use Alclads Black Base anymore. Tried it, don’t like it. Depending on the type of aircraft I am doing I sometimes also use combinations of Floquil Old Silver, Platinum Mist, MM Bare Metals or Alclad. It all depends on what shade of finish I’m trying to achieve. I just finished my Academy B-29 Enola Gay and used all of the above on different panels for a different contrast on the aircraft. Very time consuming though. Takes a lot of patience. Will post pics of her when I get them taken. Notticed the small shot of the Martin Mariner in your post. Just happen to be finishing one up at the present time. It’s a pretty old kit but goes together quite nice. A nice model of an old flying boat.

Dennis, You said,“The paint scheme took quite a bit of time”. Your efforts were well rewarded my friend. It looks great! [#toast] [bow] [#toast] ART

artabr, appreciate the comment. One thing I failed to mention was that I somehow neglected to do the de-icing boots on the wing leading edge and the vertical stabilizers. This particular had them. Some do not. I added them after the photos were taken. If you do this one don’t forget to add them. It even shows them on the boxtop photo. Dumb me. Would have been a lot easier before hand.

Beautiful build & presentation [tup]. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

denniscermak, that is actually a PBY Catalina on my post and not a Martian mariner. I’d like to see pics of your mariner when you get it done.

Very nice “Bug Smasher” there.

The markings are quite an interesting mix, were they kit decals or some after market?

The “Royal Canadian Air Force” titles above the windows are something I’ve never seen in conjunction with the “Armed Forces/Forces Armees” titles on either side of the fuselage roundel.

The Royal Canadian Air Force, Royal Canadian Army and Royal Canadian Navy ceased to exist around 1967 when they were “unified” into the current Canadian Armed Forces. About that same time, the “Royal Canadian Air force” fuselage titles were changed to “Canadian Armed Forces” down one side of the fuselage and “Forces Armees Canadienne” down the other.

Upnorth, the roundels on the fuselage and the rectangular marking on the vertical stabilizers are from another Canadian Decal Sheet in my scrap box but they match exactly with the kit markings. The ones I used were much sharper and in better register than the kit markings. The titles above the windows are from the kit as I could not find any to match.

Very nice, much better than the one I started last year. I love the look of NMF aircraft but I just haven’t had much luck with doing them.

Yep it is a nice kit!The engines are pretty nice too.I painted mine in RAF livery

Bravo, Dennis! I always love to see any version of the Beech 18, probably one of my five favorite aircraft! You did an outstanding job, my friend and the base is a wonderful touch as well! Thanks for sharing!

I like the color scheme. I am amazed at how many different schemes their are for this aircraft.

Very nice work on the C-45. I like the Canadian livery.

Outstanding work! I think the old school RCAF schemes are some of the nicest looks ever on an airplane.
