Have to take my daughter to Kent State Thursday for a day of placement testing and wonder if there are any good hobby shops in the area or aircraft related things to see or do.
Hi Swanny. There is a new hobby shop on Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls. They are building up inventory in models and paint, but are still limited. On down on Front St., there is a train shop that has a small model section. They are planning to close, but I don’t think they have yet. If you go the opposite way, to Medina, there is a hobby shop on the square, on Rt. 42. Taking 42 north towards Cleveland, you go past a Hobby Lobby. Back in Akron, if you take 77 South towards Canton, you can go to the Military Aircraft Preservation Society museum. They have a display of built up models, have been working on restoring 2 SBD’s for the last 20 tears, just received an F14, and I believe they have a Mig 17, plus several other a/c. You should go to mapquest to get the best directions.
Yes, Wayne is right.
The one on Front Street in the Falls is caleld Whistle Stop and there still there under new ownership.
There selection of kits are pretty good. I was just there lastnight and the new owner seems like a nice guy.
The one on Portage Trail specializes in radio control and they have some plastic but there way overpriced.
Hope this helps.
Mike
Also, Goodyear Tire has a little, two room museum called the World of Rubber in its corporate complex. I haven’t been there in years, but I checked and it’s temporarily open until 4:30. When I was last there, they had a couple of Indy cars, and some other things. But best was an FG-1 Corsair fuselage from firewall to empennage. They had a platform next to the cockpit that would let you get up close and personal.
And, there is a new one that opened up in Hartville, though I’m not sure where exactly.
There’s always my basement, its like a Hobby Shop. LOL
Mine too. Plus I have beer and diet scotch.
Basement modelers rock!!
Modeling and beer, gawd, I love this hobby.
Sounds like I should skip the shops and just visit everyones basements, look at models and drink beer. Now just need to figure out what to do with the wife …
The women’s auxillary meets at the antiques shops.
