Hobby Photo Host website

I found this free photo hosting site while looking through the BritModeller forums. I’ve used the site for hosting the pics of my brightly colored Mustangs on FSM’s Civil Aircraft page.

Hobby Photo Host : Share your photos on forums and social media

They offer free hosting of up to 1000 photos. Signup was fairly simple and painless. The tools for sharing photos to forums like this one and to other social media sites are easy to use. I did find that their “Britmodeller” tool copied URL tags which can be easily pasted into FSM’s picture insertion tool. Its free, you get what you pay for. There is a disclaimer to be sure that you back up your own photos locally –

A limit of 1000 images can get used up pretty quick on some WIP or GB threads. I think that mine average 50 to 100 images per subject depending upon the complexity. It’s nice to have another option, but this one does sound quite limited.

That’s interesting that they limit by the number of images. I’ve only ever seen limits by the amount of storage space. I have to agree that a limit of a thousand images sounds like a relatively small amount of space.

i am still trying to figur out using AMAZON PHOTOS as you can see from my recent armor threads. switched over tho FLICKR which is working well but they have a limit too.

also doing 30 day free trial on IMAGE SHACK.

One thing to watch for is the speed of the site. There are some sites that take over a minute per image when the link is posted in forums. If someone posts a lot of images like that in a post I find myself losing patience and backing out of the thread.

Is it a limit on the amount of storage space you can have free, till you have to take a subscription?

Imageshack is hassle-free, and it only costs $3.99/month.

I use IMGUR. It is free and as far as I know it does not limit the nuimber of photos.

Puts photobucket to shame.

IMGUR is where I put all my stuff.

It’s all 'ya need.

For what it’s worth, consider a website thru Smugmug.

Privacy and maintaining control of the images are important to me. After reading the fine print on a few image hosting sites (paid and free), that avenue lost all appeal.

Smugmug is cheap, so simple even a MS-DOS era neanderthal like me set it up in almost no time, and one can put in all sorts of security/privacy settings…or do the opposite. It also has basic photoshop features.

LOTS of flexibility and space, fast, secure, easy to access, and almost idiot-proof.

While not a paid endorsement, to me, it’s the way to go.

Here’s my site and “public” stuff. It took about an hour to figure out and upload. Now it only takes a minute to upload/remove/tweek.

Sad to say, but ImageShack has gone the way of photobucket. I’ve been with them for many years and when I payed for this last year, it only cost around $40. When I went to renew this year, they had raised the fee to almost $40 a month! So I’m done with them.
