This is the 1/32 scale kit complete with an engine, engine stand, and vinyl tires. I was told this kit may be a copy of a Trumpeter kit. It looks like it will be a good build, does anyone have any other information about this kit? Kit # HC-1692. Has anyone built it?
I have built it. It takes quite a bit of sanding and fitting at the wing roots to get a proper fit, but will look decent in the end. It is an easily assembled kit and it does have all those things you mentioned. I was happy with the results. checking the kit against walk around photo references it is not overly accurate on several details. But in the end, the silhouette looks like a MiG 17.
Mainly I used online stuff. Aircraft Resource Center has a few good walkaround shots of Mig 17’s and so does Cybermodeler. Being forward deplyed at the time I did not have my library with me so I did a lot more online research than I normally do and learned about a whole bunch of great sites.
I have the Trumpeter 1/32 Mig-15PF and from your pictures it looks like the same part sprues. You can build it either as the Mig-15F or Mig-15PF since it has 3 different air scoops included. It also has the vinyl tires, engine and engine stand you mentioned. Only difference is it has decals for a chinese unit only. Have been meaning to do it as a North Vietnamese Airforce.
Nice set of decals Lonski. All I got in the Trumpeter kit are PLA markings. Guess I have to go aftermarket. Anyway I have no plans to do it in the near future yet till I learn more about making NMF. Post some pics when you’re finished with it. Thanks!
I started the MiG-17F but visited Iraq before I could finish it. I used a real MiG, pictures and some books for reference. It is decent from what I encountered, and as long as you stick with a basic fighter version in the kit, it is nice. The radar-nose for those types are too small in diameter. I will eventually finish mine in Syrian markings. There is also an aftermarket cockpit set for this kit, I just don’t remember who makes it. I scratch-built a lot of my kit’s cockpit. Also need to add the ventral fin. Anyhow, it is a fun kit.
Thanks stik.I’ll be checking those out when I start my Trumpeter MiG-17.
Ya, I want mine in N.V.A.F. markings, but camo. I’ve heard of a scheme involving 3 shades of gray that I will try to find, and the green mix on Toon’s, and a few I read about in the fiction book, “Targets of Opportunity”.
Thats a good looking MiG, and the info about the kit will be put to good use. Thanks, and keep’em coming.
