Hobby Boss Easy Assembly 1/48 P-47D - What If - Ready for inspection

Well gents,

My NMF adventure which brought me much joy and many tears (and occasional bursts of anger, frustration and despair) has come to an end. She’s finally RFI! :)

This is my first finished NMF model where I experimented and learned A LOT, mostly about what not to do! :)I hope that the next one will be better since I should now know what I am doing… to some extent. :)

I call this adventure Zen And The Art Of NMF, as I needed a lot of patience, inner peace and tolerance for all the f’ups I made.

It turned out OK in the end, although I should have taken care of details better (I didn’t even paint the navigation lights), but I just wanted to get it done in this lifetime and move on to the next build. The Vallejo satin coat definitely killed the sheen more than I intended, but now I know better about the order of painting and how to potentially avoid clear coating over metalizers… At least I hope.

For those interested, all my agony and ecstasy can be seen in the WIP thread below:

I am not much of a photographer and will have to improve on that.

Thanks for looking. Any comments and criticism are more than welcome.

Best,

Nikola

Hell I think it turned out damn good. This hobby presents a lifetime of learning, getting better, and trial and error.

I’m with wp!! All those struggles you were talking about were worth it.

Nicely done captured jug from mid '44 on.

Marvelous jug!!

My dad was a Thunderbolt pilot.

Yeah, despite your issues she turned out fantastic! Worth all the sweat and effort!

I believe you were trying to get a well weathered/tired warbird. To that end you were very successful. Congrats on a very fine build. [t$t] [t$t] [t$t]

Stay Safe.

Excellent build! I agree with everything that everyone else has said, it’s awesome. Love it in the captured German markings. For your first NMF it turned out very well.(I’m too nervous to attempt my first NMF) Always thought that the P-47 and the Corsair were huge menacing machines when they were compared to the Zero,Me-109,Spitfire, and the P-51.

Turned out great. I like the weathering.

Thank tou Wpwar! Appreciated.

Yeah, I am kind of practicing to shift my focus on the process itself more than on the end result. More fun that way.

Thanks Jim! Appreciated!

Yeah, in the end I ended up with a bit more weathering than I intended after the hiccup with the clear coat and the decals. That’s where I had to make adjustments and turn it into a “what if” scenario.

Thanks Tom! Glad that you like how she turned out.

The “what if” scenario was the go to option after the mishap with the clear coat and decals. It did the job to some extent.

Now that’s a JUG!

Cool subject. Looks great. Congrats. Gotta love a jug.

Thank you Hoss! Appreciated!

I’ve updated the photos so it’s a bit better to see now.
