HMS DARING 1:700

Hi

Just to let you all know. I bought the cyber-hobby.com model(I think it’s part of dragon) of the 1:700 scale model Type 45 destroyer of HMS DARING. From what I’ve seen on opening the kit it does look great. All the sprues are seperately bagged. Included is a small fret of phot-etch(made by Dragon) for antenna detail, sea boat doors, hangar door, ladders and flightdeck rails. Decals for various ships of the type. The model can be built water line or mounted on a small full hull stand. The only aircraft supplied is a lynx, but the ships can operate the EH101 Merlin. There is a load of parts that are supplied with the kit ( sprue B for the Lynx helicopter-----the only part used), I’m sure this sprue was one of the aircraft carrier kits, but the extra parts will come in handy for other projects. I’m looking forward to building this kit as from a first look into the box everything looks clean and mould lines are kept too------well nothing- you might see different, yes looking at the various sprues care has to be taken as some of the parts are small and delicate, but for 1:700 !!! The it cost me £35.00 GBP which I thought was fair ( sorry I was buying it anyway) I wanted this kit as I have been on HMS DARING and loved the the time I was onboard, so I had to have the kit(My wife said "I see you’ve bought another model (I thought she couldn’t see it! damn) She then kissed me then said “have fun”. I will post photos when I start to build.

The more and more I see from Cyberhobby/Dragon the happier I seem to get about modelling !

I agree, this is the first model I have bought from them and if first impressions are anything to go on, then I will be buying more of their kits.

You should have waited for Airfix’s 1/350 version, the cost will be about the same!

Seriously though - £35 ($56) for a 1/700 plastic ship is outrageous.

Yes £35 does seem expensive, but I think it’s worth it especially since you don’t have to purchase the photoetch seperately.

I will probably purchase the Airfix 1:350 version and at the moment it is priced at £30( or £40 if you want the gift set version) , but the Airfix web site says that it is not due for release till 2012.
