Hey guys, I thought I’d post a few shots of a little viginette that I put together here from Verlinden’s #2158 “German Top Brass” (?)–kinda looked like Hitler to me, but I guess they didn’t want to name it that! I posed him with a German Shepard from the parts box-a Tamiya extra from their winter-dress “Field Briefing” set if I remember correctly…
The Fuhrer was painted with acrylics and oil shadings, portrayed in the rare General’s dress which a few late-war shots show him in…the dog is maybe abit dark for an Alsation,(“Blond”-ie[%-)]), but I thought that the conjoining of the two in the scene fit.
The base is an old Verlinden base from, I believe, a Viet Nam tank crewman…?
Anyhoo–it’s not intended to be 110% accurate–I’m sure that Hitler experts will have a number of well-deserved critiques–but I thought I’d post it anyway! Enjoy; crits and comments welcomed!
…although, as you implied, the uniform is a bit off: Hitler woudn’t have worn a Knight’s Cross at the throat, although he always proudly wore the Iron Cross 1st Class he won in WW1…

m1garand, I use mostly Windsor & Newton acrylics for the base coat and light highlights–raw sienna mixed with white and a touch of yellow ochre for the basic tone, and the I use mixes of raw sienna, orange, and raw umber for shading. I always highlight with acrylics, as I’ve found that white oil paint tends to re-absorb into the base coat after a few months.

Rick, Preston, thanks; David, you might be right about von Runstedt! Well, I can tell you that you guys have helped me to decide that when I enter this in the next contest, I WON’T call him “Hitler”!
[(-D]LOL I can see someone pointing out, in a contest, that the real Blondie was a little heavier and had a slightly different pattern of dark fur vs. light fur…but then missing that the unexploded ordnance looks a lot like a US 155mm round from the Vietnam era - [:-,]
Actually though, I love the skin tones and the uniform shading. Looks a bit gaunt to be Der Fuhrer except maybe very late in the war (when I think of him as looking like Alec Guiness for some reason…).
Actually, it IS an old 155 round, but I painted the lettering in GERMAN! [(-D] LOL! (Lesson #2: do not admit it was a Viet Nam-era base! [:-^])
In truth, I’m hoping that the judges will say “Geez, look at that old German round there doesn’t it look a lot like a 155 round? Hmmpf”" --and without a confession from me, maybe it’ll slide…?[:-^] Hopefully I’ll get more points for the figures and their paint!
