Welp…20+ years playing hockey and general tomfoolery has caught up with me. At the ripe old age of 44 I am heading towards a hip replacement.
I was told by my doc that there is no such thing as an “Athletic” hip replacement and I’m gettng Grampa’s Hip.
So my running and jumping days are coming to an end, but for the next few weeks I have a built-in excuse to hide from chores and spend time at the bench. Surgery is scheduled for Nov 25, so nothing to do on Thanksgiving but rest and watch football.
Scared to death about the surgery, but more concerned about how the painkillers are going to impact my airbrushing. Could have some psychadelic paint jobs coming up [proplr]
All the best and praying for a swift recovery DS! I’m 47 and my knees are shot. But, I’m glad that you’re getting this taken care of now. The older you get the harder it is to recover from such things.
My brother had this procedure last year at 52 years of age. Within a day he was walking with the aid of a crutch and a few days after that you would never guess he had surgery. I think he was out the same day as the procedure. You’re going to be fine. Of course always easy to say when it’s not me.
Who will be the lead singer, Arthur Itis?.. Mate been some surgery myself of late and whilst thats not fun, the amount of guilt free time on the bench… Heaven on a stick. Good luck and hope all goes well.
Quick update, surgery went great. Walking around like a champ. Ain’t medical technology wonderful?
Under the category of “when it rains it pours” I was transferring myself from the walker to the couch and snagged my ring finger I such a way that I tore the tendon and now have a “mallet finger”
Glad to hear your surgery went well. Sorry about the finger.
BTW, now that you are recovering I’d like to mention that in reading your thread title, the answer that came to mind (before I read about your actuall issue) was “Yes, and I know a guy who belongs to a band called Viagra Falls”.
Viagra Falls! That’s funny. I worked for a band in my college days called the New Directions. Seemed harmless enough until you say it out loud a few times.
After decades of running and one bad trip at zero dark thirty on Fort Knox, I have a knee that decides not to work well every so often.
I’m glad your operation went well. A hip takes a lot of abuse.
As far as a band name, I belong to the over 55+ World of Warcraft guild called “Ancient Artifacts” with players in their 60s and 70s and I’ve heard there are some in their 80s.
But the doc says “Well, we’ll wait and see”. Excercise is keeping me going pretty good. Only have pain in Knees and Hips if I sit around to many days in a row. Gotta say for all the athletic things I did as a short guy, have actually helped. Legs cramp a lot, No Meds! Doc says I have “Swimmer’s Legs.” Muscles overdeveloped from Scuba Diving!
He doubles as a Doctor at a Sports Medicine clinic.
Oh man. That sucks. From what they told me last week, knees are a much more complicated procedure. Seems counter-intuitive but apparently knees have more going on than hips. That said, it’s been less than a week and I’m already done with the walker, cane and hardcore pain meds.
