Hindenburg

Hi all! i havent been on in a while so can anyone tell me where i can get infomation and a kit of the hindenburg? thatnkyou and on 4-7-2009 im out for a while because i joined the USAF.

Hawk Models…Their Zepplin kit is a good place to start. There was a kit of the Hindenburg years ago…I had one…not the best of kits.

The old kit was by AMT, I think. It was OK. A good modeler could turn it into a much better representation of the real airship. At the very least, the struts supporting the engine pods, and the propellers, were way too thick for scale, and benefitted from replacing with stretched sprue and Evergreen strip blades, respectively.

The kit included a little 1-piece plastic DC-3, to give an idea of the scale of the airship. I don’t know, it must have been at least 1/250 scale, judging from the size of the DC-3 (it fit in the palm of your hand).

I have never looked for it, but you can probably find it on eBay.

Brad

i think they’ve re-issued it fairly recently as an injection kit with lights etc.

This is a model of the recently rerelease injection molded kit. Finished in my paints of course. [;)]

A quick search for “hindenburg model kit” turned up this eBay auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1-520-Hindenburg-Plastic-Model-Kit-With-Magazine-Review_W0QQitemZ290294560630QQihZ019QQcategoryZ1189QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If you search just on “hindenburg”, then go to the Toys & Hobbies category, there’s another copy currently up, with 2 bids.

The sellers note that the model is in 1/520 scale, so I stand corrected. That puts it in a close scale with Revell’s old Yorktown kit (now sold as “Battle of Midway Carrier”, I think). That would make a neat little diorama, the Hindenburg flying over the Yorktown on an arrival.

Disclaimer about the auctions: I am not connected with the auctions or their sellers in any way.

Brad

i wouldn’t expect anything else![:D]

I’ve got a great facination for airships, and have modeled a few I’ve searched everywhere on the web for airship information. If you want to know anything about airships a good place to start is www.airshipmodeler.com . It’s kind of like this website but geared towards lighter than air flight. For sure you can find out about any model there, and the folks are real nice like here.

thankyou all have a good day!

Revell Germany did one in the mid-1990s, in 1/720, which makes it an altogether more handleable size. It was reissued as the Graf Zeppelin II about 10 years ago. the sprues re exactly the same, but the power eggs on the Hindenburg have pusher props, the Zepp has tractors, so it’s easy to make a Hindenburg from the Zepp - though you’d have to source your own name lettering, serials and swastikas.

I’ve built them both. They’re both fairly simple builds, except for the power eggs, which are a slightly tricky fit.

Cheers,

Chris.

Now all we need to do is get somebody to issue these monsters in 1/72… [:-^]

Let’s aim for 1/32 [:D]

speaking of 1/32nd scale i have done a B-36 Peacemaker… it was huge

Soooo DANG, COOL!

A good friend of mine bought the new release fairly recently… (still in the box)

Impressive model INDEED!
