I’m looking for a set of plans for the 78’ Higgins PT Boat and the LCVP. I want something more involver that the 1 sheet line drawing of the overhead and side view that I have found on sever site dealing with “plans” and drydock drawings. My intention is to build a 1/10 or 1/12 scale model of these two vessels, so I will nee the internal setup, compartments and such. I have been to the D-Day museum and like sites and either they don’t have them or won’t share them. I’v looked at some of the models available, all of which would do well for the exterior, but I want to include the internal access, engineering spaces, bulkheads, even to the point of dummy radios covers if possible. Think of it this way, we’ve all seen PT 109 and it’s story, but did you ever wonder what the crew quarters were like, where the head was, a stores of supplies and ammo? I’ve been aboard both, but short of living on one that won’t work.
Have you tried contacting the folks at the D-Day Museum in New Orleans, LA.? The Higgins’ homebase was in New Orleans and I believe his daughter still lives there. Anyway, since Mr. Higgins was a " hometown boy " and built his first boats in N.O., that museum would be a good place to start looking for those plans.
Good luck.
Please read the part in the fourth sentence, fifth line where it says “I have been to the D-Day Museum…” Thanks any way.
you might want to try contacting the Naval Historical Center
The fourth sentence, fifth line sounded as though you went to a website and not the actual museum. Please excuse me for presumeing to offer help. I won’t make that mistake again. Have a good hobby.
Did you manage to find a set of Plans, as I would wish to build a 1/32 scale model? I know that the higgins trust may have a copy but I am not to sure.
Please remember that the tone of your posts, especially responses, can often be misconstrued as sarcastic. Remember that when someone offers you advice or help that you request, that they’re doing it for no other reason than to answer your questions.
You can find Higgins and LCVP plans through Taubman’s Plan Service, and The Floating Drydock.

Have you tried the Smithsonian Institute? I know they have alot of plans, line drawings on many different subjects. Keep us posted on your progress. I wanted to build me a PT boat to live & play on![:P]
I found some plans for sale. I have it in a pull down file
The data was found at:
www.warboats.org/ptboat.htm
Quite extensive list…
Does this help?
Neither NHC nor The Smithaonian will have them. If they exist NARA should have them. You either need to make the trip yourself or hire a researcher. E-mail me for more info.
