Hi all,
I’ve browsed the forums a bit before and thought it’s about time I join in. I’m a modeller from Johannesburg, South Africa. I model mostly 1/72 modern US aircraft (Nothing beats putting down a huge star and bar on a Navy Phantom [:D]). I also do the odd piece of 1/72 armor from all eras.
I’ve also been a subcriber to FSM for a while and always get inspired when I receive the latest copy.
As much as I enjoy the solitary hours at my workbench, I love to share my experiences / builds with fellow modellers and hopefully these forums will be the place to do so.
Cheers,
Hugo

Hi!!! I have always heard that South Africa is a nice place to visit. If you don’t mind my asking, can you tell me some things about it?
Yes, I’ve been to Cape Town a few times. I fly for Delta and Cape Town was my favorite city. I think it is the most beautiful place in the world. I want to go to Jo berg and take a trip up to Rourkes Drift.
[#welcome] to the forums, MegaDeth!!! Hope to see you around![;)]
Hi Big Mike,
Thanks for the welcome. I haven’t been to Cape Town in so long, it feels like it’s in another country. [:D] I saw the Cape Town branch of the IPMS on telly a while ago. Modelling looks pretty healty down there…(or was it Durban? I can’t remember )
Just finishing my 1/72 Seahawk then I’ll post some pictures.
Cheers,
Hi Sub,
There is more to South Africa than I can possibly post on a forum. I can try and give you a few pointers. In my opinion it is not nearly a dangerous as it is made out to be, as long as you use common sense (as you would anywhere else), avoid bad areas after dark etc. you should be fine.
Visually it is a very beautiful country with awesome weather. Also, if you are converting US$ to the local currency you should be able to have yourself a very decent holiday without breaking the bank. Two places that are a must to see is Cape Town and the Western Province in general, and my favourite, the Kruger National Park.
