HEY! You have just been given your own Hobby Shop...

Some long lost uncle left it to you in his will…Now you are the boss [4:-)]…

What do you stock it with? Planes Trains and Automobiles of course but how about paint, decals, scratch building stuff, books, AM parts…What manufacturers, do you sponsoir clinic and contests…

Just curious…good way to pass the time and watch the snow melt…

Hire the previous manager to run it while I build models to put in the display case.

My dream hobby shop would have a large well lit area set aside with workbenches/tables where people could work on their builds and modeling clubs could have meetings. I’d also have always have a build going. A paint booth where customers could demo airbrushes. A large reference library. Computer or two with high-speed Internet access (I’d have to find a way to block access to online hobby shops[:D]) and a digital camera for customer use. A good TV, DVD & VHS player for movies, documentaries etc. A good coffee machine.

For stock? Lots of aftermarket goodies and scratch building supplies. Oh and lots of kits too!

What Model Grandpa said Plus (for the Adults) Tap beer and Hot dogs with all the
fixin’s.
Good Hunting,

Oh…GW that’s another good idea…while I’m not a drinker a shelf serve snack area with a couple tables would be a nice addition. Stock it with some ladies magazines and you have a place for the wife and/or girlfriend to hang out while the husband and/or boyfriend is shopping. And no, I’m not a male shovenist (spl?) pig but it’s a male dominated hobby.

When do you open for bussiness?

A buddy of mine opened a shop, and quickly discovered that he sold a lot of cross stitch magazines and supplies to the bored wives of his customers.

Along the lines of Model Grandpa’s comments, I would have a very “interactive” atmosphere. In today’s world, everything runs on “service fees”, so in order to keep a LHS running financially, maybe you could have “airbrush stations” where modelers who don’t have their own compressors or airbrushes could pay by the 1/2 hour for use. Of course they may want to buy some of your paint, etc. Also, I’d hire a few of you guys (you know who you are!) to run weekly or monthly workshops. I’d hold monthly raffles and have plenty of space for my Customers to proudly display their creations. I think that having access to some non-common brands would also separate you from the Hobby Lobbys of the world.

I would have to go buy one of the old wal-mart stores, and do everything modelgrandpa said, but would also have to add a minimum of one 1/24 eight lane slot car track, one dirt r/c track, one street r/c track, and if there was anymore room then i would have to put an indoor paintball course in.[:D]

Don’t wake me, I am having happy dreams.
I love all your thoughts.

Hmmm…lets see. For me to open my dream hobby shop anytime soon one or more of following would have to occur,

A) Rich uncle would have to pass away and leave me the shop and cash. Unlikely because while my family is wealthy, it’s not in a monetary since.

B) I would have to win the lottery. Unlikely because I don’t but lottery tickets.

C) I would have to find my El Dorado this summer. Unlikely but most likely of the bunch because I hold a few gold mining claims and have several trips to said claims this summer.

That being said if you would like to make a contribution to Papa Dan’s Hobby Emporium please send cash, check, money orders or returnable pop cans to,

Papa Dan

Just kidding guys, please DO NOT send any cash, check, money orders or returnable pop cans [:)]

Then I would open it by stating that everything’s

FREE FREE FREE

and that will continue from 03:00 to 05:00 hours.
The shop will be open from 09.00am to 11.00pm.

What’ll ya have, What’ll ya have !!!

Everything that Model Grandpa said. My LHS has plastic models, dollhouses and various accessories for both and seems to do pretty well.
