Hey model companies, listen up.

I have been trying to find a 1/48 scale Boulton Paul Defiant Mk1 (to round out my Battle of Britain subjects) and the only option is the Classic Airframes subject (there are two, one not so good and one better). All I can say is “Good ______ing luck”! [8o|] The CA kit (which retailed for $29.99) is selling on Ebay for $66.85 plus shipping. So my advice, since there a LOT of modelers who apparently want this plane (even though it was not particularly successful in combat) MAKE IT!!!

While they’re at it, bring out a newly tooled Judy dive-bomber too.

agreed!!!

All in favor say -YE

Ye says I ,and while we’re at it how about a 1/48 He111Z and Do217N2 and K

Ye says me.

Not before a Revellogram 1/48 PB4Y-1 and -2… While we’re at it, a PB-1G and SB-17G…

66.00 plus shipping on Ebay, R-man? You sure there just ain’t TWO modelers that want it?

“Judy” dive bomber kits are really hard to find. About 10 years ago, I found one at the local Hobby Town, “Special Edition, Limited Production” etc and more BS on the box. I got suckered into buying it for big bucks- It was just a normal plastic kit with a few white metal pieces for landing gear. Anyhow, it turned out to be a nice model but I felt I paid more than twice what it was worth. I don’t recall the brand- maybe Tamiya, or Hasegawa?

After further research, it retailed (when still in production) for $49.99. But that is still over a 50% premium for a not so successful limited run plane. Yeah Hammer, I don’t think the audience for this kit is very wide spread except for those interested in BoB themes. However, it appears the British demand for it helps to push up its value, since it was one of their birds.

If it was 1:48 it was probably a Finemolds kit…I have a few with white metal parts.

With CA not making any kits right now they are going for a mint on E-bay. I have friend who bought out a stash and he gets $60-$80 for these kits even the less popular ones…supply and demand I guess.

Yep, and it is my experience since getting back into this hobby that CA had a niche of tooling planes that were not “common” or limited. Makes me wonder where and why whoever has those molds doesn’t start running some again. I picked up at a LHS in Cedar Rapids a CA 1/48 BF-109A, great looking kit. It seems the CA kits relied on resin and PE a lot (which I’m not fired up about) but at least they tooled them.

Jules stop making new kits about two years when the market went south. He stills has the molds.

Thad

“Jules”? You must have a little inside information not of common knowledge. I would think one of the surviving companies would be interested in those molds, or perhaps CA will try to give it another shot??? I really like their subjects, planes out of the ordinary.

That’s my guess, as that is the only one I know of. Perhaps it was reboxed by someone else.

Add a decent Ju 188 series to the list ,be nice to have an option other than the horrid fit Dragon rehashed Ju88 kit that goes for crazy prices on evilbay

Yeah, I had a heck of a time locating a 1/48 Ju 88A-4 kit for my BoB series which would allow me to buy the conversion kit to make it into the Ju 88A-1. Revell is suposed to have an awesome 1/32 Ju 88A-1, maybe later, trying to keep all subjects 1/48. For Germany: I have the Bf 109E-4, Ju 87B, He 111H-4, Ju 88A-1, Do-17Z, British: Hurricane Mk1, Spitfire Mk1, that’s it, which is why the BP Defiant Mk1 would be nice and also the Bristol Blenheim Mk1/1F

I hear ya trying to keep my Luftwaffe builds all 1/14 as well. I’ve seen the 1/32 on a wip on another site and it does look like a very nice kit! I just had to spend more than I really wanted for a Koster Do217N2 conversion for the Revell Do217E-4 on evil bay but its the only option I could find. I could’ve purchased 3 kits for what that Koster set me back ,does look nice tho. I’ve got the He177,Fi156c,Bf110G,Ju88C6,Arado234 ,FW189,He219 & Me163 so far. Yea the Defiant is a must for you,I think there is a 1/48 Blenhiem not sure but think its Trumpeter ?

As far as I know the only maker of either BP Defiant or Blenheim (as a correct BoB era variant) in 1/48 is CA. Which is really a shame.

Missed it again! The freaking thing went for $76.01 USD + shipping from the UK [8o|] and who knows how much higher with a max bid placed. I think this is a kit that will have to wait until a re-release from somebody else.
