Here's one for you............

The South African Cavallo version has a number of differences from the Aljaba. The most obvious is mine protection - the cab has an armored underside, sides and front, with the sides and front having an AV of 2 and the underside 3. The Cavallo also has folding A-frame crane used in concert with the winches; it may be used only when a semi-trailer is not attached to the Cavallo, as it gets in the way of the fifth wheel. The Cavallo has also been modified into a specialized heavy recovery vehicle.Image

This is a Spanish built Kynos Aljaba 8x8 Transporter with two different types of trailers. It is used by the SANDF, and was used by the SADF. Do you think the Trumpeter FAUN could be used to do this?

I am hoping so. South Africa also uses the MANN transporter. Some one in Spain has built one already, but i can’t find any info on the build.

Okay does it look like I could use the FAUN to do a scratch of this? Anybody?

my first thought was the trumpeter faun, very strange looking rig.i have never seen a faun built or in real life so its just MHO.as a side note i’ve always liked recovery/transport vehicles very busy and full of detail, kinda like the fuzz between my ears.

I have a friend in South Africa, looking at the FAUN kit to see what it is going to take to do a conversion kit for it to turn it into the Cavallo. I am going to buy another one to start a conversion on my own, and then go with his when it is complete. Glad someone finally replied. I have noticed if it isn’t WW2 German armor, you don’t get many replies on the site.

i try to reply to threads if it is a topic i’m familiar with, folks have done that for me so i figure thats how it works.i’ve noticed that your taste do lie "off the beaten path"so to speak but it adds an interesting flavor to the forums, all of us here are good at something, besides you might just spark a revolution in modeling more current armored vehicles.personally i’m looking forward to when they produce a good model of the armys new six wheeled apc or the swedish articulated 155 sp gun (saw it on “futureweapons”,looked like a dumptruck with a really big gun on the back)anyway keep us posted on your project, ya may inspire someone to venture ootb.

We do try to liven things up where ever we go. Sadly though, there are not very many kits for the genre I tend to build, and the ones that are out there tend to be on the pricey side. This is a kit I want to see made, and make myself for my current MBT project (SADF Olifant). I will put one of them on the trailer. I need to find a cheap enough FAUN, but not just yet. Will look around in a month or so. Thanks for the reply.

The new AFV Club Cent would be a logical base for the Olifant…wonder if anybody’s listening? Bueller?

I’d love to offer more replies for non-German / non-WWII questions, but I just don’t have that much knowledge about them (not that I know anything about German WWII stuff, mind you - but I can fake it more easily).

Please bear in mind that what you’re asking - whether an Trumpeter Faun kit can be converted to represent a South African Caballo - is quite an obscure area. Until you posted these pics, I’d never seen one.

I am, however, beginning to delve into the area of SA/Rhodesian topics, due promarily to the interest sparked by your GB. Should be interesting research!

Believe me it is madening! I look like I have mange from pulling at my hair so much. But there in lies the challenge. I do have some connections in that area of the world, and they are very helpful. Looks as thought he FAUN tractor will work, and the trailer too, to some extent. the other trailer will have to be totally scratched though. I have a booklet coming from a friend dedicated to this specific transporter. Will post some pic’s if you guy’s would like.
