I tell ‘ya, I’m not a huge fan of winged-things Japanese, and am only slowly starting to convert to braille scale, but this new kit has me itchin’.
Here’s a link to a page with details on this kit. Click on the three links next to ‘Contents’ for shots of the bagged sprues and decal sheet. There are also some images showing the instructions.
I think (after building my 1/72 BV-194) this scale is getting more and more attractive, not at least because of the difference in price of course.
As I mentioned in another topic, I bought Dragon’s Do-335 Pfeil, I have never seen so many parts in a 1/72 kit (at least for a single-seater).
It’s a 1/32 kit lads. I’m sure they can pack plenty of detail in there. I’m not a huge fan of braille scale kits, but I might have to give this one a look.
It sure is a nice kit. Saw it at the LHS last weekend.
The last aircraft I built was a 1/48 Otaki Hayate, way back in 1995, so now it looks like it’s time to do another one!
It’s rather confusing that with aircraft modelling, “braille scale” refers to large scales
like 1/32 and 1/24 (possibly because they’re easier to build if you have poor eyesight) but
with tanks and military vehicles, “braille scale” means small-scale - 1/72 and 1/76 - presumably
because the pieces are so small!
Certainly looks like an impressive kit and expands the rapidly growing range of 1/32 WW2 subjects. This would certainly be my preferred aircraft building scale if it were not for lack of space!
The Frank was one of the best looking Japenese fighters of WW2 IMHO. This is sure to be another excellent kit from Hasegawa. I recently completed their 1/48 Frank & it was a joy to build. I imagine the 1/32 is a scaled up version with possibly more detail.
Yeah, everyone has their own definition or application of the term. I figure it this way though; they can call it what they want to call it and I’ll call it what it is! LOL [;)][:p]
And the waning eyesight thing is exactly why I’m leaning toward the big stuff more and more. I like my 48’s but I can see the day when the stash may be half and half. I just can’t see it too clearly… hehe…
As to the similarities between the Frank and the Jug, I can see where you’re coming from Tom. Although it is smaller and slimmer as Rick said, the relative proportions are quite similar. BIG-looking nose compared to a small-looking tail. With the confusion in the ETO between the P-47 and the Fw 190, I could see a similar confusion in the PTO between these two.
This thing looks amazing. The Ki-84 is the only IJA single engine that I waste my time with. It is almost perfect in design from an engineering and asthetic perspective. I VERY rarely build anything in 1/32, but (drool) I GOTS TO get me one-a dem!
Leon, I have one about 1/2 built. It’s every bit as nice as everyone thought. The kit engineering is very similar to the excellent 1/48 Hasegawa kit, but the detail is better. Fit so far has been excellent with no problems at all. There have been some AM decals released which are better than the Hasegawa kit decals, although the kit decals are certainly useable. I’m doing it as an OOTB build, but if you are in a mood for super detailing, this kit has a lot of potential.
If anyone is interested, there is a review of this kit in the July issue of Finescale Modeler beginning page 60. I have this kit and it is next in line for building.
