Here there be monsters!

Hello, I recently came across an old action figure forgotten in the nooks and crannies of my back yard. Left there and forgotten, an obvious casualty of some epic imaginative battle. There was no tombstone or grave marker, simply a purple clad appendage protruding through the dirt. When I rescued it from its resting place, I thought better of throwing it out. After all, it had once been the prized possession of a young lad, who, not unlike myself, would have spent countless hours engaged in heavy combat with every available trooper he could enlist from his toy box. It brought back memories. I lost many a fine GI Joe to the sands of my back yard. This, however, is no GI Joe.

Say hello to the Joker.

An ugly chap to say the least, with a less than orthodox style of dress and a rather dismal sense of humor. A man like this never found his way into any of my childhood collections. I wasn’t one to admire villains, unless they had names like Boba Fett, Darth Vader, or Cobra Commander. Either way, as he stared at me, I couldn’t help but notice some interesting potential. He is wearing what looks to be pirate clothing and on the basis of this assumption, I decided to give him a make over. As you can see in the picture above, and the one here,

I have puttied the gaps and seems that would have allowed his joints to move, in all manner of inhuman flexibility. And then I used putty to lengthen his jacket.

Sorry for the ugly pictures but its a work in progress so I’ll post higher quality pics when its complete. I’ve decided to convert him. Instead of the Joker, I hope in the end he will resemble a slightly more realistic looking pirate.

I began painting last night. I recommend priming before painting if you ever try this. I didn’t and the paint, especially oils, don’t adhere well and take a while to set. Any how, here is where he stands now. Not finished yet but looking respectable, in my opinion. I’ll finish up with the face and hair tonight. Let me know what you think, good or bad, love it or hate it.

Thanks,

Ugh, these are terrible photos…oh well, I’ll have better ones up in a bit, these are from my cell phone. But I hope to finish him up and put him on a small base, maybe on a dock by the shore or a ship deck or some such. Thanks again.

nice, thatle be one to pull out on international talk like a pirate day. He looks really good.

Wow, I love it!

Scorpio and Rob, thanks for the comments! Seems this Figures section doesn’t get a whole lotta press eh? It was a fun experiment but gave me good experience points on working with figures. Not sure what to do with him now, so he just hangs out on the shelf…rather menacingly I might say, kinda like he knows something I don’t.

Wow, really cool! I’d never have thought of converting an old action figure over like that. If you hadn’t put in the before photos I’d never have believed he started out as the Joker.

I hope now you’re not going to convert a Batman figure over into a Royal Navy pirate hunter? [:D]

My 2 1\2 year old son has this action figure and clobbered his sister in the head with it tonight and she cried for 20 minutes and so did he! Funny!

<----- evil laugh… ! love it .!

Hey thanks guys, glad you like it! I’m in the midst of working on a small base for him. Sort of a dock, sea side, desert island type thing. Posted a few pics over in the Dio section. Not real quality photos yet, so it hasn’t garnered any comments I don’t believe.
