Here is my model building work area. Show us yours!!!!

Hey Spiralcity,

Yeah, I know my man, I know… Like I told one of my daughters once, “so long as there’s a female in the room, I’m outnumbered.”

See how well we get trained? “she decided to let me have a little more…” rolls off the tongue with such ease and in genuine gratitude! This comes from the sheer psychic relief of the delusion we won a great victory in battle when, in fact, we were merely granted a self-serving dispensation from on high for our self-abasing pleading. They recognize what we don’t, that by occasionally tossing us a crumb they reinforce the master/slave dynamic and who is who in it. And that our own cognizance that we must first ask confers on them both the power to grant, or not, the proposition and confirms our acknowledgement of their headship. Remember, Sprialcity, she only said yes because it serves the purposes of the crown, her crown. Even in seeming victory we forge our own chains! Oh, the humanity…

On what basis do we subjugate and subordinate ourselves to this tyranny? Because we are beaten down and broken not through superior forces of reason, logic, equity, justice or truth but through the ever present threat, explicit at first and ingrained as the years go on, of hysterical and endless hectoring, pestering, bickering and myriad other mysterious and dark arts of emotionalism. So, over time, prudent, pre-emptive surrender becomes our reflexive course. All according to their plan. Contention, that is thy name Woman, and they are masters of the game. [}:)]

So, your new little “corner of the roof” does look nice and well organized. May you enjoy it in peace and modeling success! Oh, btw, don’t forget to say “thank you, dear” because remember too, what the crown giveth the crown can taketh away! [;)]

I’ve cleared a corner out in our very large walk-in closet (basically a spare room) and will begin building my bench tonight. Hopefully have everything up and running/modeling by this weekend. My boys are at Boy Scout camp all next week, so I should get some bench time in if I get the project finished.

Okay Todd![tup] Any port in a storm! Good for you!

MarkS1…what the heck is the mallet for??? It will only increase your desire for destruction when things don’t go right!

But a nice space nonetheless!

Swatting flies! Seriously, I don’t see one in my pics although I do have one close to hand just to left of my area. Perhaps, you’re thinking of Spiralcity’s space because I noticed one on his pegboard along with a full-sized HACKSAW.

OOPS! Yer correct! It was a quote from Spiralcity…sorry. Fun reply thogh!

OK. Here’s mine.

Kids gone so I got out of the damp basement and set up in the smallest of the spare bedrooms. Put a refurbished screen door on the room to keep out the cats but keep the circulation of heat or air conditioning. Side benefit is that the grandchildren have been taught to look but not enter unless accompanied. Have them flying rubber powered planes now. They are still too young for glue and paint. Snap together kits are in the works for this Xmas.

Jim[4:-)]

Very nice work areas, guys! Here’s a few shots of mine…

…and a bit of the stash…

LOL! I like to bash and hack stuff!!! [}:)]

The hacksaw comes in handy for household stuff. The mallet is hard rubber and very lite. It is not as large as it appears. Trust me! [:P]

Very nice, well organized. I never thought of peg board and I see it in several replies. Hmmm, looks useful.

Hey guys! I wanted to share a little history when it comes to my model bench. I came across this picture from when I was a youngster of my first real workbench. Man does this bring back memories! Some things have changed…and some haven’t! [;)]

Be sure to check my blog to learn more about it.

Shoot Gerald…well…maybe kinda…sorta. But yes, you have made LEAPS!..and in color!

I got my bench built last night, I’ll try and post some in process pics. Need some ideas from everyone on paint bottle racks. I see some cool shelves in some of your benches that hold the small paints in nice order.

Any suggestions or ideas on building an ideal small, on wall, paint rack would be appreciated.

Todd

Mine is a standalone wood and formica rack of a double-H type with the crossmembers angled down about 45 degrees. Use a 1"-11/4" bore bit and make rows of holes about 1/2" deep. You can see the color paint in each and they’re easily accessible. It could be easily adapated to a wall mounted deal. In fact, I thought of doing it because the problem with the double-H is the shelves must be far apart in order to see and reach to the back of the bottom one. One longer such shelf under the cabinets would work better and free up space. A ready made, formica shelf that could be drilled is cheap at Home Depot, say, a 10" or 12" x 36", is only about $8 or so.

Also, several of the plastic drawers you see in the pic sitting on the left bench are full of paints. Got 'em at Walmart for about $5 a set. They’re light, movable and hold about 15-30 paints each, depending on paint bottle size and hold up to the weight. I stow the less used stuff in them.

One of the nicest I’ve seen is Ski4jeepin’s (page 2 of thread) movable, sliding racks of the similer design.

I coulda had a V-8! Slap![(-D]

Drill some holes to hold the bottles!..and I was getting ready to glue in partitions on my slanted shelf!

Sometimes the trees are too thick to see the forest!

Yeah, comes from years of fine scale modeling where we look for the harder, more precise solutions! And any chance to scratchbuild, too.

Heck, I didn’t think it up, I got my bench plans from a FSM issue way back in '91. One improvement I did think of was using white formica because it cleans up easily.

Found what I wanted in this thread - /forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=700651. Wing_Nut has built exactly what I was envisioning. Now it’s off to Home Depot.

Yeah, that IS nice. Very elegant and saves a lot space over my version. Think I’ll do the same. I could face both sides of the corner in my bench area probably doubling the rack capacity while freeing the corner space on the bench by removing the old rack.

Iam gona steal your paint rack idea, i have a stereo cabnet that will work out great.

Well I finally have my bench together! This was a totally free project. My neighbor is a carpenter and had scraps laying around including the butcher block top. My paint storage was solved with a toy change tray (stores dollars and change). I can add as I get more paint. My current paint supply was limited by my old storage, so I have to get lots more now.

Hey,

Got mine done today, take a look:

and 15 minutes later:

Love it!. Don’t appreciate good organization 'til you have it. Now, all my paints are lined up, easy to see and in the order I most use them.
