Here is my model building work area. Show us yours!!!!

TIP - Close the Door on the Freezer and it will Warm Up [(-D]

LMAO, Sean!

Good eye you have! That is/was our 50-odd year old zero degree freezer that crapped out last month…really miss it, and looked for a replacement compressor…I’d have to rig it up, but the $25 missing from the light bill ain’t that bad.

But for now, the freezer isn’t contributing to the ambiance of the workspace…just keeping it clean[:D]

just thought i’d throw mine into the mix. it’s small and i’ve only had it for about 2 months but I love it.

I wish I had half the space some of you have! My area is tiny! Oh well, here it is.

this is cleaned DAILY. cant have it all out when Im not home. If your an enlisted person like me, or have been in the past you know where Im coming from.

Yes, that is FSM on the 32" TV. This very thread to be exact. [(-D]

some unfinished kits.

under the desk

some finished stuf I can keep on display.

thats it! plus or minus 6-7 kits under my bed [:D] you can see why i dont have an airbrush.

Here’s mine just finished it about two months ago.

Well, it’s not exactly my work area, but it has seen it’s share of use and abuse. I usually work at a small bench, not too different than what several others use. However, I needed to have somewhere else for my paints and compressor. I found this melamine cabinet in Lowe’s and added casters to the bottom, the swing-out table to the side and an enclosure on the other side for electrical. The compressor is mounted on the bottom shelf and wired to a switch on the front. The shelves were placed on drawer glides to access the paints. There’s also a holder for my airbrush. Since I build in my garage, I have to clean up after every build session and this roll-away paint cabinet makes it easy to make room for two Jeeps.

Hey, thats cool. [tup]

Nice work.

Mike

Here’s mine.

Ski4…very cool solution!

MikeV…your’s has the ‘lived-in’ look![(-D]

That’s because it’s a spare bedroom and my computer room. [:D]

Okay, you asked for it…but don’t laugh too hard:

Yep, it’s a plywood box I built years and years ago with a lighted magnifier stuck to the side. Inside, I made a removable tray that serves as a small work area.

I generally put the tray on the coffee table in my living room while I’m working and everything goes back in the box at the end of the session. The tray also sets nicely on my lap if I want to kick back on the couch while I’m working.

The spray booth I built sets on a bench on my back porch and is vented out of the nearest window via a removable panel I fabbed up. Paints not stored in the box are kept in a cabinet in our laundry room.

When you’re crowded for space ya do what ya hafta!! LOL

Roger…great ingenuity! and nice woodworking too!

enemeink, Great set up - Nice Ship your Building there, Be sure to Post pics when you Finish it .[tup]

Puma , Most of my Builds have been on a bench the size of yours,The only thing I foiund out by a Bigger Workspace is I can Pile More Paint Jars and Tools in my way ! I still end up building in a 20 sq inch area ![(-D]

Doc , Nice but to Clean, Throw some old sprue around stack up some clutter . Otherwise I will think I am doing something wrong. [:-^]

Ski4 , What a Fantastic Idea for a small space, you should draw up a set of plans for this andPost for those out there with limited or shared space ! [tup]

Mike , Looks like you have your area well suited to your Needs, Everything is in easy reach !

Buildit , I’m not laughing, Im Envious of your wood working Talent. You will probably be one of these guys who makes aDetailed to the Gills B-17 F out of Hardwood ! [bow]

This is a bench I had built in '91 from plans in FSM. Had it made in white formica for better lighting, durability and clean up. Used to be in the corner of the den in my previous house but me and my cigars (stashed in the paint booth) have been banished to the garage in our present abode. The garage is A/C’d and the paint booth is vented to the outside. I know it looks too dusty but, believe it or don’t, it doesn’t present a problem with the A/C on. You can also see our emergency generator under the left side of the bench as we live in hurricane country.

The paint booth used to sit on the left side of the bench but I’ve mounted it to the wall to free up bench space. That’s a garden variety stove vent with fan/light on top, just as the FSM plans recommended. Works great and didn’t cost a fortune. Shelf is movable or can be removed entirely. Funny thing is I now rarely use it as intended since I’m in the garage. I spray towards it for the venting action and let jobs dry in it.

I bought this bad boy at good 'ol Sears for about $140.00 in '91 and it’s still going strong. I couldn’t see spending the big bucks they get for the little jobs that “go” with airbrushes and are basically useless for anything else. Air pressure is air pressure, right? I use it for all manner of pnuematic tools, etc. Just added universal quick connects. Only downside is the noise but with a 7-gallon tank it doesn’t cycle frequently.

WOW! Some of you have VERY nice work areas. I’m a bit emarrassed to post pics of my space. I have to use two seperate rooms. My office holds the majority of my stash and reference books and our spare room I have to share with the two women in my life.(wife and daughter)

Here’s the office and the stash.

Heres the reference book shelfs.

Here’s the spare room and my work desk.

Here’s one of the shelfs I’m allowed to have in the spare room. [sigh]

And this is the top of a bookshelf I have the privilege to use.

Im fighting to take over the spare room but the women are winning this battle so far. [}:)]

Hey Spiralcity,

I’m actually happy to be exiled to the garage because just as it says in Proverbs, “better to live in a corner of the roof than with a contentious woman”. And when it comes to cigars, paint fumes, compressor noise and clutter she can be danged unreasonable. You’ve at least got a fighting chance although even if it was just the wife you’re still outclassed in determination and persistence whereas I’m simply, hopelessly outclassed and overwhelmingly outnumbered. I’ve got six young children, 3 boys, 3 girls! You don’t know the joy of living with females until you’re explaining yourself to four of them at every turn.

The solitude of the garage, where I can work in peace and not have my stuff messed with, is a blessing! And all of them seem to know that the model bench area is truly, absolutely MINE and to leave it alone. That’s a first for us and worth it all by itself.

BTW, it’s the quality of the man not the bench that’ll make the difference.

Well, I’m a bit embarrassed to show you my humble surroundings, as some of you guys think I’m rich! …[:-^]…LOL! [(-D]

This is my work area–windows behind me, (great for ventilation and sun-at-your-back! [8D]) and a direct view to the TV over the right side! Spray booth venting out the window there, and ottoman for a seat, and the shelf on top I made myself.

I originaly had one of those tiny brown “writer’s desks” that they sell for kids–you know; onw drawer on the side, tiny, no room for anything. I went to try to find a bigger desk, and had no luck finding anything but computer desks. Or, $700 mahogany “Heirloom”-type writer’s desks that were plainly way too ornate–not to mention expensive!

All over Syracuse–same story, every store I went to. Fianally, I a salesman asked me if he could help me in this one store, and I told him of my frustration, and he said, “well we have a couple of old office desks in the back that we were getting picked up today to get rid of them; they’re not very nice loooking, but do you want to see them?” So I said “Sure!” (What did I have to lose at that point?!)

So I went back, and as soon as I saw it, I said “THAT"S IT!!” It’s great–an old metal Office Desk, with huge drawers on the sides–room for everything, and a nice large drawer under the table for tools. He let me have it for $50.00!

ANd here I am, ready for another day of cuttin’ and gluin’! I’m going in boys! LOL! [(-D]

Nice area and great post Doog! Same goes for the rest of you! Just have fun!

LOL! Mark I’m also outnumbered. It’s always two to one in this household.

After showing my wife the nice work spaces that are posted here she decided to let me have a lttle more space in the spare room. I captured the entire corner. [}:)]
