Help with Stryker Anti Slip Surface

Guys:

Hi! I’m building the new AFV Club Stryker Command Vehicle and need some help concerning the Anti Slip surface that I read is missing from the kit. I’ve searched the forum articles on the Stryker and the web but haven’t found any pictures of where it should go. I imagine it goes on the upper surfaces but where? I’m not making an Iraq vehicle if that helps any. Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Charlie

Baiscally it is on all the flat surfaces of the upper hull and front slope. Hope that helps.

Check out this site for a photo essay on the Stryker. I think you can see what you are asking about, also check out the excellent job the builder did with the slat armor.http://armorama.kitmaker.net/

Here is the M1126 build at Armorama by Miloslav Hraban, of Real Model. He did a great job on it. This pic shows the anti-slip well.

Good luck on it.

Guys:

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you all but I just got back into town this evening. Thanks for all the great information, I appreciate it. That M1126 on Armorama that HeavyArty posted looks really good especially the slat armor. I wish I had the talent to do something like that. What do you suggest I use for making the non-slip material? Is Mr Surfacer (bottled version) OK and if so, which one?

Thanks again

Charlie

This is my method, and also what Miloslav used on his (I think, looks like it anyways): Rust-Oleum Anti-Slip technique.

Gino:

Hi! Thanks for that tip, looks like a really good idea. I think I saw that product at my local Michaels Craft store (they have a coupon for tomorrow). I was looking at the upper hull as I was building the Stryker this AM, how would I protect all those rivits from the spray? I read in your article that you used masking tape on the M1 but there’s tons of rivit heads showing on the upper hull of the Stryker. Are you going to build one of the new Stryker kits and if so, how would you go about solving this problem.

I’m sorry to ask all these questions but this is my first modern armor build - I usually do WWII stuff and the closest thing to this is applying the zimmerite to German kits. I usually cheat by buying the resin sets.

Again, really appreciate all time your help!

Thanks

Charlie

The tape method works just fine on the bolt heads too. I used the same technique on my 3ID M2A2 ODS Bradley. Just cut the tape bigger than the bolt heads. Here is how it came out.

I will eventually build a Stryker. I am waiting on the Dragon version to come out to see how it will be though.

Good luck.

Gino:

Hi! Thanks for the follow-up on my second question. I’m planning on going out tomorrow after all the craziness dies down some and buy the terra cota spray. I’ll try your method of using the tape - your Bradley has smaller rivits than my Stryker.

I was going to wait on the Dragon kit before buying too but I couldn’t pass on this command version. I still might get the Dragon depending on how this one comes out and when they get around to releasing it.

Thanks
