I hope this is the right place to post this. If not, please move it to the proper category.
Anyway, I’m working on the dashboard and I noticed that the center section (which covers the area including the speedometer, the radio, and the passenger side “Bel Aire” logo and clock) has a set of decals to go on it. However, the plastic piece is highly detailed and I am afraid that the decal will look like c&%p, so I painted that section Alclad II aluminum.
Which brings me to my problem. I am not a good dry brusher and to try to get the dashboard as detailed as possible I want to use the decals for the speedometer and Bel Aire logo and clock. I am afraid that, because of the raised surfaces the decals won’t settle no matter how much decal setting solution I use so my idea is to cut the parts of the decal that I want and cement them in place while they are still on the backing (using white glue, of course). Another method I thought of would be to cut a backing from thin plastic sheet (I believe 0.10 thickness) place the decal on that and then cement it in place. Which do you folks think would be the best method to give me the best results?
Thanks,
David
You could also drill out the speedo, place the decal on sheet styrene and glue from the back.
