After spraying on some gloss red tamiya paint, i started to remove the masking tape and before I knew it I touched a bit of the painted area. It left a finger print. I do not want to sand the area as there is molded rivet detail and a few swipes of sanding would remove the detail.
I was thinking of just dipping a paint brush or cotton swab into some tamiya thinner of 91% alcohol to “re wet” the paint and remove the finger print. I could then remask and re paint the area to clean it up.
Any other suggestions to preserve the rivet detail and remove the finger print?
Been there, done that.
You could try your idea; I don’t know if the oils from your finger skin might not allow the new coat of paint to stick properly.
Would polishing with a dry cloth, say a clean T-shirt do it?
Been there and done that. Now I wear vinyl gloves when I paint.
Using very fine paper like 1000 grit, it will take quite a bit of sanding before you get into the molded plastic and start destroying detail. Just keep checking visually every few strokes. I have sanded out finger prints. Also, you don’t need a very heavy coat of paint to cover up what is left of the finish, so the further paint doesn’t do much to harm the detail.
I have done this too and yes the q-tip and thinner carefully will work great.
Thanks for the help. I ended up dipping cotton swabs in 91% alcohol. It did the trick. Did a little touch up respray and I am back on track.
