Help with parts placement, ICM 1/48 Do-215

Hi all,

I’m finishing up on the cockpit and I have a question about part placement. Step 19 calls for glueing parts A21 and A28 together and glueing this subassembly in the indicated slot on the fuselage half (step 21). The problem is that with this subassembly in place, there is insufficient room for inserting the rear, rearward facing seat. There’s space on each side but the front of the seat butts up against part A28. Yes, the seat will fit but it’s very unrealistic to expect the crew member to sit with no forward legroom at all. I’ve seen pictures of this kit built elsewhere on Britmodeller and it appears that part A28 was not used, thus giving the rear seat adequate leg room.

I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who has built this kit. How did you manage this parts fit issue?

Curious as to what manufacturer this is, and what scale? The Revell 1/48th version?

See title of my post

Based on what I can see, you have it exactly how it is supposed to be. ??

@LeesKeys I’m sure you have searched the internet for pics of how this is supposed to look when that is installed per the instructions that are referenced in the image shared by @fxsti03-42. Any luck with them? What does that part of the cockpit look like in the real aircraft?

Good questions. I’ve been able to find only a few pics of the interior of the Do-215 and none of them show this section of the crew area. I’ve looked at pics of 3 or 4 online builds and none of the show part A28 installed. So that’s what I’ve done. Just left it off; with just the bulkhead piece (A21) in place, the seating space for the rear crew member member is much more realistic. I’m curious as to what component part A28 actually represents in the actual aircraft (a cover for something beneath). I’m a stickler for accuracy up to a point, but in the end “does it look right?” wins.

Check this out.

Thanks. A nice review. The article will be helpful as I get further along with the build.

Did you notice the location of the rear crew seat?

Yes. I’ve glued the fuselage halves together but I could slip that part in from the underside. I can’t see that either way would affect the fit of anything other than the crew rear seat.
