Ian,

If you finished it with enamel flat I would think a cleaner such as windex or some type of mild glass cleaner would work. If you finished it with acrylics then I don’t know what you will be able to clean it with.

Reddog

hi reddog, its enamel flat and i think i’ve got some glass cleaner under the sink some where i’m on the hunt.

… ian

I would try some glass cleaner watered down a bit with water and lightly scrub it with a toothbrush. Then rinse with clean water. Since the flat coat is enamal then the glass cleaner shouldn’t hurt it. Good Luck.

Reddog

I think the first thing I would try is mild dish soap on one of the spots, and then try a flat coat on that spot to see if you get the right sheen back. After that, maybe a cloth that has nail polish remover on it, but almost dry. Sorry for your troubles, but, hey, doesn’t the wife owe you another Tamiya Lanc with all the trimmings?

Having said that, I’m outta here…

Don’t know if this is available over there, but try Simple Green, or a mixture of diluted Simple Green and Windex or other ammoniated cleaner.

If Simple Green is not available, how about Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Oil Soap? Murphy’s Oil Soap? They’re the best “mild” grease removers I know, but I don’t know what’s available on your side of the pond.

You might try lemon juice diluted in water. Test must a small amount.

Ian,

If you have access to it, I should think Goo Gone would work, but try it on a small spot first. It will definitely degrease, and shouldn’t be harmful to enamel. It works great on mold release agents, etc.

Brian [C):-)]

Denatured alcohol, not rubbing. It’s a mixture of ethanol and methanol and other stuff. It works great for cleaning almost anything. Get it from a boating supply store or hardware store. Be careful, it’s poisonous, and if you ingest it, it causes blindness. But it works! [8-]

Forgot about Goo Gone, Brian![8]

However, don’t let it sit in the model—it will affect enamels if allowed to sit on them.

There are various citrus cleaners that all smell like lemons or oranges. Or Goof Off, which is like Goo B Gone and also like me. And a product called Zout that Ms. Bondo uses to get red wine off the shirt fronts of YT.

Here’s an idea that is INCREDIBLY stupid, or not. What if you “finished the job”? In woodworking, its not uncommon that if you have a stain disaster, all of which always CANNOT be reversed, you get on as much of the rest of it as you can the offensive color in a uniform coat.

Maybe a) Future b) gloss cote c) more duck fat? I don’t know but I’ve hidden a lot of screw ups in the past from the PTB with a piece of tissue dunked in Veg oil.

But it will all come out too dark I’m sure.

I wish you the best. Thats a beautiful model.

I like the way you think, sir![swg]

Well…why not just pee on it? I was told that it is the cure all for jellyfish stings. Maybe stains on models too?

Peewee

I was serious, a blending in solution, no pun intended, might be the way to go. You don’t have much to lose, if the ultimate is to repaint.

I do’nt know what kind of grease you’ve got in your bomber but if it is kitchen grease like fat or butter, try using diswashing liquid which can remove grease on plates. It worked for me once when I handled one of my models after eating a sandwich. If there are still grease marks after the wash, try dry spraying it with flat.

hi everyone,
i got the grease off banana.gifbanana.gifi used industrial washing up liquid that was like treacle which got alot of it off, then i used window cleaner with a babies tooth brush.

coolio.gifshe is as good as new coolio.gif

thanks for all the help guys 271.gif…ian.

Are you suggesting that he could have placed his model into his dishwasher and the degreaser contained withing the dishwashing liquid would have cleaned his model? Best stop the cycle before “dry” however.

Peewee

I never mentioned a dishwasher did I?

No, you did not. I simply took your suggestion to the next level.
