On a Schnellboot those were the Smoke generators, on the early ones and some of the Armored cupola ones. Oh! The other thing appears to be a crewman, I think?

I’m working on a schnellboot in Blender and couldn’t find any decent pictures of those devices googling just: schnellboot. Hopefully I’ll have better luck googling “schnellboot smoke generator”
