This kit has been lingering on the shelf for a while, and I don’t think I’ll ever build it, but in order to take it to a swap meet or something like that, I need to know what it is from which manufacturer so I can print out the instructions. It was in a cigar box, with a sheet of decals, and no manufacturer name anywhere. What is it?
That tubby fuselage definately looks like one of those Gee Bee racers from the 1920’s I think. But as to the manufacturer I can’t help you there.
Are you sure that’s 1/48? It looks like the 1/32 scale Williams Brothers kit.
PS: Blitzwing is correct, it’s a GeeBee “Z” racer
Definitely a Gee Bee. Says so on the decals.
I agree, Phil, that was might thought, too, when I saw the first post in the thread. I’m not familiar with Gee Bee kits in any other scale, except a nagging suspicion that there’s a Testor kit of one, in 1/48. My memory is faulty at times.
Yeah… that looks the ticket, the seat is in 3 parts and the tires in vinal as well as plastic.
I think it’s 1/48, a 1/35 scale guy would not fit in the cockpit. And I knew it was a Gee Bee, the decals are a clear giveaway, and the shape too, though I’m not claiming to be a civil aircraft nut…
That is indeed the Williams Bros. kit # 32526 Gee Bee Z Super Sportster.
It’s currently available from Williams Bros., so it’s not particularly collectable. From the looks of the decal sheet (good), yours is probably ten years old or less.
This one is an attractive scheme, a departure from the more usual red/ white.
Those exploded instructions shown are a WB give away, as are the individual engine pots.
WB is a great company, and if you contact them I’m sure they’ll set you up with the plans.
And it’s 1/32 scale, still a very small airplane.
thanks WILLIEANDJOE! If I can’t find the plans at there website then I at least know what to search for.[:D[
There is also a Lindberg 1/32 Gee Bee, and I seem to recall seeing a yellow version.
One of the many planes Jimmy Doolittle piloted
