I am new here and I am just getting back into the hobby after a 14 year hiatus. I lost my entire collection in a house fire in 2003 and sadly stepped away at that time. The itch to build again has been consuming me so here i am, stepping back into this great hobby.
In the past I built 1/72 scale World War II aircraft and I am going to continue it that realm (I have a great friend/mentor who got me started in 72nd World War II aircraft). I started building when I was maybe 10 or 11 and was 34 when I began my hiatus. Now that I am 48 and have more time, I feel the time is right to jump back in - I have been so excited I can’t sleep at night thinking about building aircraft again (ordered my first kit last week)
I look forward to taking part in this foum, learning new techniques and meeting great individuals who share the same passion I am re-discovering.
Sorry to hear about your loss. I know the feeling. Lost my collection and supplies when I got married back in '63. While getting a new house and the related work involved, I left all my stuff at my moms house. When I went to move it out to the house, she had packed it all up and given some away to the neighbors kids and the rest to the trash. So I started all over again. Been building for 70 of my 76 years. Started in 1946 at the ripe old age of 6. My uncles, one a submariner and the other in the merchant marines in WWII got me started. They supplied all the kits and tools as my parents thought it was a waste of time and money.
I build whatever I see that I like and my wallet says OK. Favorites are WWI & WWII aircraft and Sailing Ships.
If you have any questions/problems, just ask. Members are very helpful. Looking forward to seeing pics of your builds.
I just received my first new kit in 20 years (Eduard F6F-3) and can’t wait to get started on it. I chose the F6F-3 because this was the last one I was working on (it was about 80% done) when I lost the collection. Figured it was a fitting one to start back up again with.
