Hello, new old modeller

Been modeling on & off since 11 and I’m now 65 but, this is the first time ever in Fine Scale Modeler forums.
I was in the U.S.A.F. for 8 yrs and worked in both SAC & TAC.
I have built kit for squadron displays, friends and before it all…the Squadron Shop in Hazel park Mi.
My Ex made me stop because she didn’t have a hobby and it just wasn’t fair to her … “she who must not be named” has since been replaced and my current wife encourages me to build (I know, sometimes I pinch myself to prove it isn’t a dream).
She even bought me a T-shirt that says “my wife lets me play with models” I’ll be wearing it at the Ft. Wayne I.P.M.S. nationals.
LIFE IS GOOD !!!

Welcome to the FAM forums! Looking forward to your contributions here. Feel free to share some pics of your builds. I’m guessing you build modern aircraft based on your introduction? Do you have a favorite scale?

I do mainly jet aircraft fighters in 1/48 scale and the big planes in 1/72 with one exception… I have the B-1 in 1/48 … However, I built 1 tank, a Humvee, a P-3B in1/72 and a partridge in…no wait that was a cartoon I saw… the Skipjack Submarine in 1/72 scale for people I know.

Oooops …the T-shirt says “I play with Models” …I never read reflections in mirrors, I’m old, that’s my excuse and I’m stickin’ to it.

My incredibly significant better half bought This F-14 for me after seeing “Top Gun II”

When It was finished I was thinking of building wooden stackable storage containers but she said to display them in the house…so I hang finished kits nose down on the wall

Welcome! I am not a plane guy…though I have built a 1/48 F-18C. I do admire the skill it takes to finish aircraft (versus my typical armour builds), so I look forward to seeing your contributions to the Forum.

Pull up a chair! Welcome aboard. Nice Tomcat. That’s a big model!

Welcome to the forum. Great looking F-14. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. It’s great when you have a supportive spouse!

Oh yeah…nothing beats standing on your head in the F-4 cockpit and using your handy dandy 7-level to adjust the auto-pilot trim pots in 110° heat…with com headsets trying to talk to the crew doggie and sound coherent.

Welcome! I recently started again at 66, the last thing I built was when I was 16 years old. US Army among other things in the interim. Retirement and getting older was an inspiration to start back up. This is a good place to hang out-lots of knowledge and examples to be gleaned here.

Welcome to the group! I’m also back after a long absence and have a wife who is highly enthusiastic about our hobby, it’s great isn’t it?

I come here every day, even if I’m not in the mood to build, its fun to see what others are doing.

Favorite topics are the “what I did on the bench today” and “latest acquisitions” that has been in continuous play since 2017.

Share your builds, share your stash or just lurk, you will likely have a great time.

I learned a lot by trial & error over the years and any knowledge I can pass along… I will.
