Hello from Virginia, USA

Like many here, who restarted their modelling hobby, I retired in 2014 and spend most of the warmer months, fly fishing for trout or hiking. Now that the colder months are here, I decided to start a kit that will take me through the next few months. My decision was between the Bronco M1114 armored HUMVEE with upgrade set from Voyager or MENG King Tiger with Henschel Turret and full intorior and MENG workable tracks and PE set. I watched many build and review videos and decided on the King Tiger. It has been many years since building, with a dabble last winter with a 52" GATO Class sub, which sits in various pieces and stages of completion and the Tamiya M113, which stands completed.

In October I underwent Carpel Tunnel release surgery and the removel of the Trapezium bone from my thumbbecause of arthritis and bone spurs. I am now eight weeks into recovery from surgery. The cast came off last week and having trouble with holding small pieces.

Last night I started on the road wheels, drive sprockets, idler wheels and torsion bars, but won’t be able to do the tracks until they arrive from Andy’s Hobby Headquarters, Which was the only place that had them in stock. I’m also looking for the elusive Zimmerit which seems to be out of stock everywhere. Anyway, lots of time before that’s needed.

I look forward to learning weathering technics and other effects. Thank you for reading my ramblings and look forward to your input and critics as I trudge forward on this overwhelming kit.

[snWcm] aboard! Glad to have you with us.

What part of the Old Dominion, BTW? I’m in Maryland now, but I lived in Blacksburg for a fondly-remembered decade.

Cheers

I live in Staunton, due north a couple hours from Blacksburg. Been living here since 2001. I’m a transplant, originally from Massachusetts.

Sounds like a great project, welcome aboard.

Welcome to the Forums Martin! Glad to have you with us.

Hope that you post pics of your “Gato” sub build. One of my uncles served aboard a Gato class sub in WWII. I’ve built a couple of subs over the years and would love to watch your build progress.

Stay Safe.

I will as soon as I figure out how to post pictures
