I own 30+ pieces of armor to include tanks, APC’s, SPG’s and lighter vehicles like LMTV’s, HMMWV’s and a few helicopters. The helicopters are static and are not operational.
I am here in particular to get paint details for our Syrian T-62. It was captured by Israel back in 1982 during operations in Lebanon. I have see a few examples of our T-62 on various model forums and figured this would be the best place to get the proper colors for painting.
Welcome aboard. Good reference on Syrian stuff is hard to come by. At least from that time. The few photos to be seen usually show a pattern of sand and gray over the Soviet green. Markings photos are even harder to find.
Welcome to the forum, Ron! That’s a pretty cool collection on display at your site!
As far as details on any specific piece of armor go, I’d take a look down in the Armor subforum. You may get better visibility for your questions there.
Sorry I can’t help because the only ones I saw face to Face as it were, were in East Berlin at the time the Wall came down! They were the atypical Russian green! Oh ! I digress, Welcome Aboard!
Thank you for the welcome. On a side note, here is our Sherman M4A3 that is a true bring-back from Iwo Jima. We don’t know why it was brought back to the States or not dumped overboard like the rest of the Shermans but here it is. We brought two Iwo Jima tanker veterans to Battlefield last year for interviews and one of them had actually been in our tank. The first picture is our tank after it had been moved out of the way because it was disabled. The second picture is of how it lookedd when we received it. The last picture is of how it looks today. We attached all the wood and “nails” in the exact same locations. The old welding areas gave us evidence of where to weld the attachemnts that held the wood and nails in place.
That is a great restoration! That tank looks like it was used as a range target at one point. The damage sustained on Iwo looks to be easily recoverable and repairable. No catastrophic explosion, and not burned out. The late model hull types on Iwo Jima were new M4A3s. If any types were gonna be dumped, they would likely be the older small hatch hull types.
You would think that they would’ve dropped the older Shermans in but Leyton (the Iwo Jima veteran) told us how it made their stomachs turn when they dropped all the newly-issued tanks in the ocean. He said that the they were so pissed about all the waste going on.
