Heller 1/400 Scharnhorst and Gneisnenau

Hi everyone:

New to this forum and hope to learn something from all of you pros.

Does anyone know if the parts of Heller’s 2 DKM battle cruisers - Scharnhorst and Gneisnenau - are inter- changable? i.e., can I build Scharnhorst from Gneisnenau, or vise versa? I know Airfix’s boxing says “Scharnhorst or Gneisnenau”.

No. Gneisenau has the larger a/c hanger which is noticeable.

see here www.bismarck-class.dk/…/gneisenaubaz.html

there are some mast placement differences.

The OR kit has different spruce unique to each.

Heller does model the differences between the two ships. And, being such a large size, they are easy to detail!

A most excellent build, the Gneisenau was!

You will find my own Gneisenau in this thread:
