Head's Up- I'm gonna be off modelling for a while....

…simply because I’m back in school again. With all the associated work with that, building models is going to have to take a back seat for a while. This is just a head’s up that I won’t be posting much on this forum in the ways of completed builds. I can, though, provide an up-to-date photo montage of where my current projects stand.

First, the Goose. I’m adding control linkages to the tail, and may sporadically add more during the next few weeks.

Second, my Bv 222 Dockwagen has wheels. Well, half of them anyway. I used a dowel for the center hub and then bent and glued the “tires” on the outside with strip plastic. These are simply propped in place for the photo. They’ll be glued on once the larger cradle is painted.

Finally, this is a little project I’ve kept secret up until now. It should probably go in the helo section, too, but it fits… sorta. Anyway, I’m trying my hand at a full (albeit small) aircraft scratchbuild, and here’s where it stands right now. I present- the Fa 330 gyro kite in 1/72.

It aint perfect, but she looks good enough to me. It’s a combination of brass tube of various sizes and stretched sprue, while the tail and blades shaped sheet plastic. The tail is black in preparation for the painted tail crosses.

Pretty tiny, huh? [:D]

I won’t be completely off aircraft modelling, however. I’m taking a sculpture class, and we have to make a wood sculplture. I’m seriously considering trying my hand at a solid scratchbuild, a 1/72 ANT-26. This was a planned 12 engined Russian bomber that (in 1/72) will have a wingspan of 54 inches. The fuselage will only be about 21 inches, though, so it will be a LOT of wing with comparitively less of everything else. It may be a bit much, but we’ll have to see. I really, really, REALLY want to build it, and this is my best chance to “git r done”, as it were.

I’ll keep everybody updated on THAT build as I begin it. Thanks for checking my progress out, and wish me luck!

Good luck in school and hope to see you around here every now and then.

Mike, that ‘copter-kite is frickin’ awesome! Great work! I know what you mean about school. I’m taking 18 hours this quarter, and on tuesdays and thursdays i’m at school from about 9 to 5:30, plus the hour for the round trip[:(]. What all do you have on your plate this quarte/semester besides your sweet art class?

HEY! I have been to Adrianthe fiancee and I stayed at a bed and breakfast there… she lives in Jackson, MI and goes to school at EMU. Where are you going to school at?

To bad you won’t be able to build for awhile, I know from being around her for 3 1/2 years that most college students don’t have much free time! It would be a great stress realiver though… Good luck with school Lucien!

I’m going to Siena Heights University, one of the two colleges in Adrian (the other being, oddly enough, Adrian College). I’m not staying on campus, to save a bit of money.

RadMax8- I think I’m taking somewheres around 16 credit hours total. Not as much as you, but still enough. In addition to my sculpture class, I have an all around art basics class (which features model building this semester, go figure), an advanced drawing class (took the basic one last semester), a visual (read- easy!) math class geared toward Art majors, a Reading and Writing Class, and then a required Political class. It’s a bunch to do, but thankfully I enjoy most of it. My sculpture class is a later one, 5:30 to 8, but the studio is open until midnight. I can easily see myself pulling some late hours this semester! But if I enjoy doing it, who cares, right?

Oh, just a head’s up eizzle- if you ever make it back down here, check out the Hobby Store they have in Tecumseh, just north of Adrian. It’s called J-Bar Hobbies, and is one of the best (although sometimes pricey) hobby stores within the Tri-State area. They actually specialize in the rare and obscure, and have a decent selection of vacuform and resin kits. This is in addition to other aspects of Hobbies in general (RC, ships, railroads, slot cars, etc, etc).

Bud

I applaud your focus on school. Get it done sooner in life than later, or you might end up being some overweight, disgruntled guy in a job that brings no joy, like… uh, like this guy I know. Yeah, that’s it. Some guy I know. [;)]

Good luck! Hope you still drop in to see us from time to time.

Good luck LH. We’ll will keep a seat warm for you whenever you feel like dropping by.

Oh, don’t worry. I’ll still drop in and bug you guys from time to time, offering advice, commenting on new builds, etc, etc, etc, ad infinitum. I just won’t be BUILDING anything! [:D]

Although, my Sculpture teacher doesn’t have a problem with people walking in late at night and making non-assigned pieces of their own. He is, in fact, an active sculptor first, and a teacher second. I might pop in every now and then and build a few airplanes that have been kicking around in my head for a while now. Who knows? After this, you could be seeing even MORE insanity out of me. But that’s a good thing, right?

Right?

Uh, guys?

(Just kiddin’ [:D])

I’m really enjoying your work and will wait how ever long it takes to see you continue on your models. I especially dig your gyro. Great work!
