Havin' a blast with Hobby Boss!

Hello all:

Today I felt a bit like I did when I built my first model 25 years or so ago.

I put together the majority of my new Hobby Boss 1/72 Hawker Hurricane this afternoon and had a real blast doing it to.

The engineering for a kit with such a low parts count (23 or so) is top notch to say the least. I had most of it together in under 20 minutes and was flying it around the flat making propeller noises (don’t tell my girlfriend)

I’ve had several kits on the go since I moved to the Czech Republic a couple of years ago, but no completions in that time. I suspect I’ll have this one done by the end of the weekend.

Some of the surface structures are a tad overstated, but you can tell that super accuracy and detail is taking a back seat to fun in these kits as soon as you open the box.

I think Hobby Boss really needs a big round of applause for what they’ve done here.

So are they the inexpensive, easy to assemble, and highly detailed kits that their website makes them out to be?

Inexpensive and easy to assemble for sure. Highly detailed in this case is a relative term, hasegawa and Tamiya they ain’t, but for the price you pay you get enough of a cockpit and landing gear well along with some nicely recessed pane line detail to say that you got your money’s worth.

Of course, the fun aspect that these kits bring back to the hobby is pricelss.

If you’re thinking that these kits would be good for beginners, the would be as long as you were guiding them. The instructions are a bit confusing in spots.

As an experienced modeler looking for a break from high price and nut and bolt accuracy, I have to say I like this kit and may be inclined to buy more Hobby Boss in the future.

If any of you are into war gaming, I’d say these kits are perfect for you if you want a quick built representation of something for your game table that will look the part and be a whole lot more durable than a typical model kit.

I’m writing a review of this kit to post on the net, so I’ll put a link to it once its up.
