As a profession, I’m a free lance writer. However, in the last year I’ve had folks express interest in my skills with photography as well as with modeling. In fact, I have a commission build going on right now. It’s time to update my business card, which right now focuses only on the writing angle. So my question is, how would you phrase a modeling skill so it sounds and looks professional on a business card?
‘Professional models’?
‘Commission commemorative models/dioramas’?
‘Commemorative scale models/dioramas’?
Anyone done this or have advice? I’d rather not have to make a separate business card for different creative skills and am hoping to put all skills on one card.
How about adding “You name it, I can build it!” ? [:D] Good luck with it, Chris! That’s pretty neat that you’re building on commission, too. I have yet to have that privilege.
One side emphasising your creative & photography skills, with your ‘your-name-here’ branded website web address emphasised, showcasing your latest & variety of work.
The other side bread & butter, with your ‘more-business-like’ web address?
I used Deluxe (used to work for them) for my last set, & it’s only a few bucks more to print on both sides.
A ‘tent card’ (such as place name card) gives 4 times the surface area, so you can do ‘less-is-more’ outside & colour-full info on the inside.
Another option are card-sized mini-CD-ROMS, useful if you do web, programming techy stuff, but less common now.
Well , Dirk , seeing as how you have the lead - in as a photographer it won’t be that hard . Proffessional Photographer and provider of Special Miniature Building skills .
My almost 50 yr old company , has never advertised .The card reads simply This
If writing is your bread and butter, were it me I’d be hesitant to hand out cards with other skills for fear of portraying a “Jack of all trades, master of none” impression.
I am NOT suggesting that is the case, I’m talking about the perception of the folk on the receiving end of the card.
I think I’d lean towards separate cards.
Just my 2 cents, I’m certainly no marketing expert.
Whichever direction you go, hope you let us know how it plays out for you. And good luck!
