richs26- Thank you, I’m glad to know more about that P-40E I built! As for the book by John Haile Cloe, I actually just bought it last week. Lots of good photos in it, and should prove to be a great reference. I thought about building Leslie Spoontz’s aircraft, but found anohter in the book with a wolf’s head that I am considering doing. I managed to track down a few serial numbers for P-39Ds and -Ns, just need to match themup with individual aircraft numbers. Thanks for the help and the list of available aircraft there- have been working on a similar list and building up my stash. Thus far, the B-18 looks to be the most difficult to build/acquire. Thanks again! [tup]
Butz:
Found it at RollModels for $15.00! Thanks again for the info.

You can also build P 40Ns, my uncle flew them in the aleutians and I have many pictures of them. Some had the tiger on the nose but some did not. One of my uncles P 40Ns simply had his girlfriends name painted on the nose. Anyone who would be interested in these photos can PM me. Daywalker has allready expressed an interest in them.[2c]
Hey Dave,
Just sent ya a PM… By the way, your Uncle flew one of the finest a/c that Western New York built!!!

Hey Rich,
Thank you very much for the kind words my friend…!!
Howdy Frank,
Laughs… Too funny I had to be into work by O dark thirty[:P] Any who, I chose to do a ship from the 39thPS, 31stPG. This will be a “What If” build just because I am going to use a name as I mentioned that this 39 will be a tribute to my late Grandpa who worked on these…
However there will be a little twist so stay tuned…

Dave: thanks for the good catch and info on P-40N’s. I forgot the photos in my P-40 In Action showing to N models from the 18th FS.
Daywalker: I have some other Aleutian references for your use. “The Forgotten War”, Vol.1-4 by Stan Cohen; the original work but now revised, “The Thousand Mile War”, by Brian Garfield; and if you can find it soemwhere, “Foul Weather Front”, by Rhodes Arnold, who was a member of the 404th BS. This one could be hard to find as he died in Sept. I believe he was a contributor to one of the B-24 websites. There is also a book out on Aleutian PBY and Ventura operations written by a former Aleutian PBY pilot but I don’t know hte author’s name. I am going to B&N this weekend to get it.
Butz: Keep up the work on P-39. I want to do a P-400 of the 67th FS in crate from Bell. There was a picture of one that one guy did in the 2003 FSM Annual, I believe, but I haven’t found any pictures to work from to get the proper dimensions.
ALRIGHT didfal…!!! Sweet…!! You will not be disappointed I guarantee[;)]

Well my friends, here she stands as of right now. Its funny, earlier I went to my LHS to see what was new and exciting…
Found myself lookin through the Detail & Scale book on the 39… Mind you I already had one in my reference library… Laughs
Anywho, I noticed a pix that for what ever reason I did not notice earlier… Its the unit that I am going to represent but only this time they were participating in the 1941 Louisiana war games…
Then it came to me… I used Tamiya tape to make the upper wing and fuselage crosses. Afer the white was applied, as you will see, the crosses are not so even or straight. I figured they were essentually field applied with either mats or maskings… So I it’ll do [:P] I still have to apply the port sides cross as well as the lower left wing’s cross.
They had a few war game exercises within 41 which the application of the croses were different. You had the “White” and “Red” forces… After doing some research and reviewing some 39thPS a/c that took part in the Carolina, Louisuana and Selfridge exercises…
So I flipped a coin and went to what I felt was better… Well, her she is… Comments welcomed as well as crit’s.
Thanks fer lookin…

Very cool Mike! I was just looking through that same book last night before bbed. Is the aircraft on page 16? Striking photo of it at night with the landing lamp on.
Loo-king-good-mang!
Cool! I have that book as well, its nice to see someone build something a little different. I dont recall seeing one of these built before. Keep us posted.[#toast]
Hey Frank,
Why yessir, page 16 it is [:P] Yea I have to agree, the photo is pretty neat…!! Glad you like
Yo Justen,
Why thank you for the kind words my man…!! Hopefully a little later on tonight I will be able to AB on the other two remaining crosses…
AND, if time permits maybe even to gloss… Yea Baby, almost done!!
Hey Dave,
As Frank mentioned about the a/c on pg 16, I knew I saw it somewhere but for what ever reeason I could not think for the life of me. I went to my LHS and looked at the same book as I have at home and tada… there she was… Geez…
Your right about not seeing such builds like this, I guess people prefer the “Prettier” more colouful aircraft.
I too like them but I am also into doing more of the rare builds, the ones that you normally do not see everyday… Wait… once I am done w/ this 39, more like this will be popping up like wildfire… LMAO
Again, thank you for the kind words fella’s… Much appreciated

You’ll be the trend-setter. [;)]
DO you have plans for a base for this one? I hear Verlinden makes a cool resin PSP base…
SInce it’s in your neck of the woods (Bell Country): Have you heard that the Seneca Niagara Casino is forcing the Niagara Aerospace Museum out by the end of March. Bad news for Niagara Falls; good news for Buffalo. They’re going to put it downtown in either the Naval Park or they’ll share space with the Pierce Arrow Museum.
Let’s-go-Buff-a-lo!
Hey Bro,
Trend-setter… That’ll be the day [;)] Hahahah, very funny[:P][(-D]
As for the base, I’ll probably use the one that I showed you yesterday at Ace. Who knows but the Shadow do… LOL
Yea I knew about this for sometime now…[sigh] When it was back at the Mall, it was a great little set up but once they moved and certain people came into play*(board members)**,* it started to go down hill from there.
I am still a member kind of in the higher ups but being the younger generation, I know nothing… Thats a story in its self…[banghead]
Well looking on the brighter sides of things, they will be able to get more a/c since they will have more room to play with… Either way will benifit them as long as they don’t pooch it up like in the past… GGgrrrrrrr[8-]
Niagara Falls had a good thing… Leave it to City Officials to throw a wrench into a well oiled machine… Laughs

Howdy once again,
Ok… I actually made it to the gloss coat & decaling stage…!!! [:D] I used the old Super Scale decal sheet # 48-7 w/ the exception of the name…
When I applied the gloss, instead of mixing it with 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol, I used distilled water.
Let me tell you, the sheen on this thing is unbeleiveable… I have not acheived this type of shine while using the Alcohol including the future floor wax… Anywho… Just remember, the crosses are air brushed on[:P]
This is where I am at right now with a few more decals to be put on… One thing that you will really notice, is how using the black as a base coat really brings out the various shades…[:)] Please let me know what you think and again comments & crits welcomed

Hey mike what did you use for a gloss coat? Is this future? Looks great! [#toast]
Hey Dave,
Nutz… Knew I forgot something…[(-D][:P] I used Poly Scale’s Clear Gloss. Once all is said and done, I’ll use their Clear Flat. I highly recommend Poly Scale…!!
Glad you liked
