[D)] Another kit I’ve never heard of?? Since joining E.bay and listening to my card scream I have picked up a few nice ships.A few I’ve never heard of like the ‘Water-witch’ I asked about earlier.Well today I just saw and fell for the Hasegawa kit of a 1/20th Ocean racer called the ‘Wing of Yamaha’.
2 feet long,25" high and 6’ wide.Silkspan sails and what looks like typical excellent Japanese moulding.Yet I have never come across or heard of this one before?
Do any of our small band of shipwrights know anything??? You can see it in the ship section.he still has 3 left if anyone is interested…
I have one (unbuilt) and its a pretty nice kit, well detailed with a complete interior . Designed to be sailed single-handed and state-of-the-art in 1975.
I am certainly reviving this thread, it so happens that I have this kit also, my father gave it to me before he passed away and I am now coming around to putting it together. But, the instruction manual is lost.
Do you still have the kit? If so, would you be willing to scan, take pictures of the manual for me? I would be more than happy to pay for the effort. I really want to put the model together.
Well, after a long trawl through Scalemates, there’s no evidence of this one. And I know I’ve seen them on eBay. But, if there’s not kit listing on Scalemates, it’s dificult to find the instuctions.
I checked a number of “usual suspects,” too: ARII, Entex, Otaki, as well as Hasegawa
I have most of these and the OPTY is without a doubt the smallest. I started buying them back in the Seventies.That’s when I had more money than sense. A customer would want one( This was in the Late Eighties) and I would buy two. One for them, one for me.
I upgraded two to be Motorsailers. Not hard, considering the hardware was already there. I do know that many were absoultely gorgeous moldings. Some were from Imaii, Some were Entex and some were Hase.
I have searched high and low and no instructions, I am pretty sad about it, but thank you so much for looking around, maybe someone will hop in someday with them. I will keep looking and update the message if I find them.
I just saw your post, so sorry for not responding to you sooner. I don’t visit here as much as I used to.
I do still have the Wing of Yamaha kit, but unfortunately I do not have the illustrated instructions. I do have the english transltion of the instructions’ text, as well as some interior and exterior photos that came with the kit, and the sail diagram. If any of that would be helpful to you PM me and I will see about getting the information to you.
I also have the Seatopia kit and I do have those instructions if anyone needs them.
I don’t mind at all. The Wing of Yamaha is WM-003:5500 The Seatopia is WM-002:180000. I believe the big numbers at the end may represent the price in yen. That got me curious because I don’t remember ever seeing another Hasegawa sailboat kit so I googled Hasegawa WM-001 and found a reference to a 1/160 wooden model of the submarine I-400 which I had never heard of, the model I mean. Nothing came up for WM-004.
WM may have originally stood for “Wood Model”, but the two sailboats are both plastic kits, although the Seatopia has a wooden mast and some metal fittings. The Seatopia makes into a rather large model: 27.8" long by 37.4" high.
What you have there is unique.They were put out to interest Those who wanted to try “Pond Sailing”. I have seen a few at Golden Gate Model Yacht Club quite a few years back. Many wanted to sail , but NOT deal with Plank on Frame or Bulkhead, Wood Models.
If you saw these kits I think you would agree that they are not not designed to be pond yachts. They are both very detailed static models, the Wing of Yamaha even has a full interior, and they have no provision for either ballast or operable rudders. That’s not to say they could not be modified to be sailers, either free or RC, but it does not appear to me that Hasegawa intended them for that purpose.

Right after I graduated from college almost 40 years ago, I saw this in their catalogue and asked a local hobby shop to import this for me. Therefore, the instructions are in Japanese.
No, Hasegawa, Otaki and the others did NOT intend them for that. It’s what My group of guys did with them. It was just so easy and who wants to do the interior anyway? I always did, But I was the first to use Micro servos and Battery Packs in our group.
I lived in the San Jaquin /Sacramento River Delta an liked seeing what I could do with these and others. Mainly to tease Fishermen in my slough. I even Chased one Bass Boat with an R.C. Police boat to tell them they were going faster than the -NO WAKE_ rule. They got a good laugh, caught their limit and Brought me some fish too!
I have one of the -ONE Class- 12 meter boats. No one will let me sail it around here In the Park lakes(" It will Scare the WildLife")Quote en Quote! I now live in New Braunfels, Texas, and I get told to take it and sail it in the river! A Model Sailboat in a five Knot Current. Really!
Looong time later, I put the box away and decide to wait a bit, moved on to rc 1/10 cars, had fun. And yesterday I remember end my search and came here. I would most certainly live to have a copy of the instruction, pdf or physical, will ing to pay of necessary.
