Hasegawa Desert Cat, Sepecat Jaguar GR.1A

As I continue to bring down some older builds that I have never photographed before and as promised here is my 2nd Desert Storm Jaguar XK8 ooops I mean GR.1A.

This one I actually built back in 2000. This is the Hasegawa kit. Using Modeldecal 72-110, this time “Johnny Fartpants” XX725, flown by Flt Lt C. Hill and Flt Lt S. Shutt out of Muharraq AB in Bahrain. With 2 BL-755 cluster bombs, a centerline drop tank, AN/ALQ-101(V)-10 Jammer pod, Phimat Chaff dispenser pod and 2 AIM-9L Sidewinders.

Using Xtracolour enamel Desert Pink and a post shading technique of adding a little black into the mix to darken the base color and going over the panel lines.
Nothing aftermarket was used on this or the other Jag kit. Kind of nice to build them as they are out of the box. Most of my 72nd scale builds are done this way. Other than the decals of course.

This Hase kit is an easy and straight forward build. Though a rather old release it is in the series of 72nd kits that Hasegawa produced in the mid 80’s which brought them up in quality and detail. Though still with the instrument and console decals. Which is adequate for this scale especially with canopies closed.

Easy paint schemes to replicate, these were used heavily in Desert Storm and the heat and climate wore heavily on the paint scheme by the end of the war. And of course have interesting nose art. As part of the RAF group of aircraft tht participated in Desert Storm. With a Tornado presently in the painting stage at this moment it will soon these pair of Cats on the shelf.

The Saudi Air Force also flew both the ADV and IDS versions of the Tornado. With the ADV still in its RAF colors and RSAF markings, the IDS version similar to the GR.1 has a striking camo scheme that I am looking forward to do in the near future.

With the ongoing Tomcat build about completed I will then turn to continue my pursuit with the Desert Storm project which is approaching a few years old now. See if I can add to the growing number of aircraft that appeared in theatre.

More older Desert Storm Birds to follow as well as ongoing projects,’
