Hasegawa 1/72 VF-11B Thunderbolt

Hello all, Major noob in Aircraft here

I tried to squeeze what amount of time and energy I have left (I work Night Shift) to finished this as it was a gift from a dear and close friend. He was kind enough to send it to me in surprise so I figure I might as well make good work out of it.

Nothing special about this, just a quick Fun work ( actually took me about 5 weeks  ). Followed a shading method I saw on a forum ( I forgot the username so I couldn’t credit him properly, so sorry about that) and used FloryModels pigment, FloryModels Washes, MIG Pigments and MIG wash. Everything has been painted with Tamiya Acrylic. The colour Scheme is my own custom and a mix of almost everything that was within my sight LOOL.

The weathering is done in a sense that it has been going through one missions after another that it has become fairly dirty. The jets from the Macross universe are really fast so I figured paint fades would be quick and not to mention they can transform so they can and will get weathered pretty much. I added some black soot on the thrusters on the Dorsal (back) side. I added some dust effects as well on the Dorsal air intake and some amount of fading and weathering effect on the large main air intakes. (I am a SUPER noob at Aircraft and its weathering )

I hope that everybody will like it. I tried my best to make this kit as good as it can get but I still made some boo-boos but nothing I can’t improve on in the next build. And most importantly, I hope my friend will like this as I will be sending this back to him as a gift along a 1/48 P-51D Mustang …

here are the photos - enjoy

Please do drop in on the Photo bucket album to see more as I don’t want to put up too much on the forum and slow up everybody -

Thank you all for viewing and thanks in advance for the support and most of all, Thank you Steve for the kit … It was a fun build.

Have to say it looks really cool HUMMINGBIRD I’m guessing that this is from a anime?? But awesome weathering and the base did it come with the kit?

Nice looking model, but shouldn’t it be in the sci-fi forum?

Nice job on the weathering!

@ Rambo - Thanks soo much Sir… yes, this is from a Anime … Macross Plus, I think …The base is not included… I have to paint many of the spare stands for the gundam models…

@ Bronto - I have no idea … even though it is a from a sci fi anime, it is a jet so I put it under jet … if any of the mods see fit, they are welcome to move it there

@Buckeye - Thank you soo much

I’ve been wanting one of these for a while now. Nice to see one done, and you did a great job with that alternate paint scheme and the weathering.[Y]

As far as the whole ā€œdoesn’t it belong in sci-fiā€ thing…

I had some of kits in the same series in mind for upcoming builds and asked a couple of months ago about posting them here as well as or instead of the SF section as long as they were aircraft ( not obvious space fighters like the ones in Star Wars or Battlestar Galactica ), and done with an attempt at adding some weathering to add a realistic look.

The general response I got was that it was okay, even with the sci-fi origins of the subjects, and that it wasn’t much different from someone posting ā€œwhat ifā€ paint schemes, variants, and concepts that were never actually built in reality.

The only thing I’d add if you make anything else like this would be a request to post it in SF as well as here so I don’t accidentally miss it.

Awesome work! love the camo. Never was much into manga but always thought these aircraft/walkers looked really cool!

I assume this kit is just the aircraft and doesn’t transform into the walker version?

Btw: it’s both aircraft and SF so I wouldn’t worry too much about where you post, just please keep posting I love to see different stuff like this.

@Kugai - I will keep your request in mind, mate… I have plans to build more Macross fighters … And thanks for the feedback… much much appreciated

@Gamera - yes, this is the fixed kit… they can’t be transformed … The transfomrable kits from Bandai are like 70 pounds and I don’t want to waste my money on them …
