Hasegawa 1/48th P-40E, Anyone Else have Fit Issues?

Im building this kit for a co-worker. All was well until it was time to fit the fuselage to the wings. Big gaps, just awful. Pretty sure I’ve done nothing wrong. Not what I expected from this brand.

I don’t recall having that issue with that particular kit.

Have had the issue with others, many times over.

Easy fix…cut a piece of sprue, and wedge it between the fuse halves, forcing the wing roots to widen. This should fill the wingroot gap. It does take a little trial-n-error to get it just right, and sometimes takes 2-3 “spreaders”.

Seriously !!! I’m starting that kit next week. Guess I’ll have to keep my eyes open for that.

Thanks for the tip. I’m far from the best builder, and have been on a hiatus due to my current job bleeding me of all energy, but surprised at the poor fit of aforementioned parts. Should of bought the Hobby Boss easy assembly P-40.

The hasegwa P-40 series are the best piece of plastic one can buy!! No way shouldve you gone for the HobbyBoss kit!! But it does have the notorious wing root gap that most Hasegawa kits have, but I don’t recall mine being that bad.

Try masking tape from wing tip to wing tip across the top then increase the tension by pressing tape to the top of wing until gaps close. Now hit the wing root joint with Tenax or Tamiya Extra thin cement. Let it dry before you remove tension. It will go back to the natural diherdral. This usually works for me. Hmmm, I don’t recall root issues with that one, but wait 'till you get to the inserts…oye yoi yoi…

Several modeling brands suffer the same issue. When filling large gaps between wing to body will result in a model which actually is out of measurement. Before you start gluing the wings together , check for any raised areas that needs to be sanded .And on the body connecting parts do the same. Then test fit to see if any large gaps appear.
