Hasegawa 1/48 F-8 Crusader

Has anyone started building the Hasegawa 1/48 F-8 Crusader? I know coming from Hasegawa it will be a very nice kit. I just wanted some details on the build. I am still waiting for mine, my local hobby shop owner says distribution is very limited at this time.

Thanks,
N.

nwilliams,
WOW, you have to be kidding right [:0]???
My second home Ace Hobby Shop had the F-8 w/in two weeks of its release.
I have not started mine either but from the looks of it, she should not really have any draw backs(fit, filling, alignment ect…) when assembling(gotta be a lot better than Monograms LMAO). But then again each run could be different.
My dad should be starting his in a short time(his fav a/c when he flew outta NATC Pax River. When he starts it, I’m sure I’ll hear if there are any problems or other inaccuracies

This month’s Model Art features the Hasegawa F-8, including details on building it a variety of ways.
All in Japanese, of course, but there are tons and tons of great pictures.

Isn’t the Hasegawa F-8 just a rebox of the old Revell-AG kit? If so, I prolly won’t build one, I don’t like its raised panel lines or the lack of accuracy in the underwing bomb racks, and the fact that it doesn’t even tell you how to attach them! I think Tamiya or Italeri makes an amazing 1/72 scale model, complete w/ recessed detail!

WOW man…!!! How dare u… LMAO
The Hasegawa F-8 is A WHOLE NEW KIT/MOLDING(its worth the price). It puts the Monogram F-8 to shame. Enough said

YES! Well then, I’ll just have to save up and grab one! CRUSADERS FOREVER!!!

Hey Tech
Thank you, now I can sleep better tonight…[:D][:p][:D][:p]
You will not be disappointed w/ this kit.

Does it have options for a raised wing and droped flaps? If it does it would be well worth the price.

Hey Berny
Y Yes it does…!! You have the option of raised main wing w/ the flaps and slats being in the dropped position[8D]

Butz. Outstanding. I am going to order one tomorrow. Thanks for the info.

Enjoy Berny, you wont be disappointed.

I think the wing is postionable with polycaps, too. Not sure about the wing/flaps positioning accuracy in either positions, but there ya go.

I got mine delivered this weekend. I couldn’t wait to check it out. The only thing I didn’t like about it is the wing could not be folded. Also it looks like it has the A-7 main and nose gear mods of the rebuilt acft. If so it can’t be built as an E model, only a J model. Other than that the kit is great.

My dad just got one. The wings look impressive, but I was disappointed in the cockpit detailing and the fact that the refueling probe was molded closed. Even the Monogram had this feature. We were thinking of mating the Hasegawa wings onto the Monogram kit instead.

I’d sure relax about the refueling probe. It was NEVER left open on the ground. However, the wings were often folded, so that would be nice. Check the Hyperscale review on the kit. Pretty thorough and interesting…especially about the gear issue.

pishnaris

What did they say about the gear? Was it the A-7 gear as used on the rebuilt J? The kit doesn’t have the split leading edge flaps but that wouldn’t be hard to make.

Good point on the refueling probe. I don’t know as much about the Crusader as I do on other types. I remembered that the Monogram also had folding wings, but I doubt they would be folded with the wings raised anyways. I’ve seen a set of VF-33 F-8 decals which have black and yellow trimmed lightning bolts, so I probably will get the Hasegawa model. Thanks for pointing that out.

Whaz up pishnaris,
Refueling probe/door never left open?? I have several ref pics that show the refueling door as being left open. This could have been due to routine maintenance or inspections.
This is also evident w/ the pics my dad has while he was stationed at Pax River.Never say NEVER[:p] LOL…!!!
I too agree that the door was closed 9 out of 10 times while on the ground but there is always an exception to the rule.
The refueling door being closed is’nt really a big deal for me but it would have been nice though if Hasegawa had an “open position” as an option.

hey BUTZ, were you refering to ACE hobby in NYC (35E31st)? It’s been years since I’ve been there

Whaz up wibhi2,
Sorry I was not talking about “Ace Hobby” in NYC. I was actually refering to the original “Ace Hobby Shop” here in Niagara Falls NY(at least in NY state that is[:p]).
The shop is family owned(Father and son) and has been in business for about 50 plus years.
Ace Hobby Shop has everything you need or want(his shop centers around aviation and targets I mean armour). If he does not have it he will get it for ya…!!!
So how is the one in NYC???
