Hasegawa 1:450 HMS Vanguard

I just noticed the box ad for the Hasegawa 1:450 scale USS Missouri on the FMS page. It is one of two new Hasegawa ship releases.

I am actually interested in the HMS Vanguard kit. It is the last Royal Navy battleship built. Anyone see a box review or any post on the kit quality?

The pages at Hasegawa and HLJ do not tell you much about the kit. The scale does not bother me. I have the Trumpeter 1:200 destroyers and the Revell 1:144 Fletcher in addition to many 1:350 ship kits. Are these Hasegawa 1:450 new toolings. Or just reboxed old kits from their very old releases?

Reboxing of a very old kit

See Rajen’s kit list http://www.quuxuum.org/rajens_list/shiprevs.html#HaseVanguard

Only rates an OK review, shapes are wrong. Deck seams hard to fill

Ed Grune, Thank you for the very useful link. So we still do not have a new HMS Vanguard kit yet. Tower has it for $43. I wonder how it compares with the Tamiya 1:350 battleship of the same early 1980 period.

Here is a detailed review http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~pinniger/shipkits/reviews/hasegawa_vanguard.html

The Pinniger review said:

To summarise, this kit will require a lot of work to produce a decent-looking model of HMS Vanguard. …
However, Atlantic Models have recently released a very comprehensive photo-etched brass detail set for this kit, which includes replacements for the AA guns, walkways, boat cranes, radar and other complex structures, as well as the usual railings, ladders, hatches, etc.; as it’s currently very reasonably priced (by photo-etch standards at least!) at around £17, I’d very highly recommend it to anyone intending to build this kit.

WEM still shows the PE as in stock. Very tempted.
