Has Anyone Seen a Jeep Cherokee Model Kit?

I drive a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport and would like to build a model of it. I understand I might not find a 1999 kit, but the box-style Cherokee was around for more than 15 years, so somewhere there surely must be a kit. But, I’ll be darned if I can find it. Any ideas?

P.S. I’d also like to model a couple more of my previous cars (i.e. 1992 Mazda Protege and 1982 VW Scirocco), but I’ve given up hope on those two.

On the bench now: 1/35 WWII German Infantry Figures, 1970 Buick GSX and 1955 Chevy Cameo.

Bship: To the best of my knowledge, I don’t remember ever seeing a kit of the Cherokee Classic. Lindberg has/had the 1/20 scale (I think it was) of a Grand Cherokee, in Michigan State Police and IIRC just a stock Grand.

I use to have a 4-door 1996 Cherokee Sport. Wish I’d a kept it. Was a pretty decent ride.

If you find a kit, let us know. I’m sure there are some 'Kee fans out there!

Bship, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I have never seen nor heard of any Cherokee kits. Not even die-cast. I have seen VeeDub Scirrocos kitted, AMT if memory serves. E-Bay should be your best bet for that one. Good luck.

Thanks Ski and Rocky. If I find anything, I’ll let the group know. Seems like a pretty big miss on the industry’s part.

One of the foreign kit manufacturers did create a kit of the regular Cherokee, I remember seeing it on the Hobby Shop shelf, but I can’t for the life of me remember who kitted it. It was Tamiya, Hasegawa, Fujimi, or Aoshima, I’m pretty sure. It could have been one of the more obscure(in America) manufacturers though as well. Iwould check Hobby Link Japan or Hobby World Japan, they might have something.

Hi! Is this what you are looking for, or is it too young?

I too drive a Cherokee, a '98. I also belong to a 4x4 forum here in Colorado and a few of us XJ drivers wondered this very thing a while back. I’ve done quite a bit of looking, but have never found a Cherokee kit. Only that Tamiya Grand Cherokee ^^^. Here’s a pic of my ride:

Nope, not even in resin or diecast. Too bad, I think a Cherokee kit would sell well. About the closest you can do is a 70’s Cherokee using the Revell Jeep Honcho kit and a lot of scratchbuilding.

Tamiya made a Jeep Grand Cherokee kit; it’s what I’m modifying into a tornado chase vehicle.

Kits of SUV’s are scarce in general; the only other SUV kit I can recall seeing is the Ford Explorer (AMT kit?); that shows up at model kit shows from time to time.

I had a grand cherokee kit when I was really young, but I don’t remember what brand it was. ;/

There is now a kit of the Cadillac Escalade (spelling?); I saw it at the local hobby shop last week. I’ll be darned if I can remember who made it now, though.[sigh]

Tamiya absolutely had a very nice Jeep Grand Cherokee kit, along with some other SUVs, that was very very nice and about the right vintage for you. It was in regular 1/24 scale too. I remember well, they had a full page add in Scale Auto, Fine Scale Modeller and I think other publications, with the about 5 or so built models sitting on a sort of rock setting. I thought the Cherokee was the nicest looking of the lot and was painted, I believe, a dark metallic green with tan interior.

I don’t know if this is still in Tamiya’s calalog, I might check out the web site myself, but they should stilll be available I would think at large well stocked Hobby Shops or ebay/online auction sites as well.

Hi, I have a Tamiya 1/24 Jeep Cherokee in my collection which is complete but has no plans. Not that it matters as what you need to know is shown on the box anyway. Happy to sell.

If interested, please contact me on frankpane@hotmail.com (make sure you title the email Jeep Cherokee so I know who’s contacting me). I don’t always use this forum so my personal email is the best.

Cheers,

Frank Pane.
