Has anyone given up dipping clear parts (windows, canopies, etc.) in floor wax (pledge, future, quick shine)? I am about to as I have tried it 4 times and it just doesn’t seem to be worth the trouble. No matter how careful it seems I am, there ends up with a bit of dust even drying it in something covered, or dried air bubble, or buildup in the corners even after trying to get rid of the excess.
Just about to give up. Is it worth continuing to try it again, or is it time to say “good enough”?
Your call. I’ve still got about 1/3 bottle of Future and use it on canopies. I normally dip the part a couple of times to get rid of bubbles and then cover it with a plastic container for 72 hours to prevent dust and make sure its rock solid
I have found dipping parts in clear to be hit or miss, and have sometimes suffered the same problems you mention. I have found that airbrushing the clear (whether Future, Looks Like Glass, etc.) gives more reliable results. But airbrushing is more of a chore.
Nope, I haven’t given up on the method. Although like you I occasionally get the bubble or dust speck mishap. I’ve tried airbrushing the stuff onto canopies, and that tended to give a more rough texture in my experience. Exactly what I want to avoid.
I’ve learned to withdraw it slowly from the acrylic bath in order to get a thin coat on the part, poke bubbles with a toothpick, wick off excess with a paper towel corner, set it down on a paper towel and cover it (I use an empty grocery store fruit cup container). Sometime it takes two or three times before I’m happy with it. If it dries badly, wash it off using windex with ammonia and do it again.,.
No, I haven’t abandoned using Future, either. You’re doing the things I do to avoid getting dust on the piece, or having the acrylic pool, so I can’t offer any advice.
