Hi Don,

Another nice review - by nice I mean objective and informative. I did have a giggle when, in your review, your wrote: “Harder & Steenbeck is kind of like the Apple Computer of airbrushes.”. Fits me, after all I use a Mac and I really like my H&S Evolution Silverline (hope I’m not a fanatic about either). Gotta get me that clever ‘quick set’ handle though.[t$t]

Finally, you tested all three of my modeling airbrushes, the Iwata HP-CS, H&S Evolution and Badger Krome. I demand that you rank them, Consumer Report style, using a 100 points syytem. [6]

You see, I just cannot decide by myself which one is the best modeling airbrush. [;)] After reading all your reviews, I still cannot. [:(]

@Kei Lau – That’s easy. They’re all great airbrushes. [:)]

When I paint a model, I still reach for my Badger 155 Anthem. If that doesn’t go fine enough, I pick up the Patriot. And if I needed reeely teeensy lines, I’d grab my Sotar, because I like the light feel.

These three just feel good to me, and they are no fuss, no muss, do the job airbrushes.

Iwata HP-CS, H&S Evolution and Badger Krome

I found the balance and trigger action of Iwata HP-CS, H&S Evolution and Badger Krome to be very similar and have had no problem switching from one to the other. The Badger Patriot trigger is much more sensitive, even with the fine needle. I barely pull back the trigger and paint came out like flood gate. It makes me feel it too sensitive for my clumsy figure. I want to emphasize that the perference is very personal and there is no one size fits all choice.

How is it like when switching between Patriot and SOTAR?

To me, the Sotar sprays just like the Krome, with very fine control. But it’s much lighter than the Krome, which is something I prefer. But, I don’t try to do much free hand stuff, so I seldom use either the Patriot or the Sotar. My free hand is pretty shaky.
