have a ? if i were to submerse airplane floats in clear casting resin, would the heat generated melt the plastic? i’m not going to thick, so could go in thin layers. alterntives welcome.
Modelcrazy did something similar to that, you might want to contact him with a tell. As I remember he did say he poured separate thin layers and left the dio in a cold garage to bleed the heat off.
You might want to test the whole thing with a scrap model before you try out your good one.

Yes you can, like Gamera said I poured mine during the winter and had to place the dio outdoors out of necessity due to the smell, but that seemed to work to my advantage as it kept the resin cooler. As you speculated, thin layers are the trick here.
One suggestion though. I will never use Amazing Cast two part resin again. I mixed it up exactly as the instructions said and it never hardened after 2 weeks. I was MUCH happier with Castin Craft Polyester Casting Resin from HL and the %40 off coupon wasn’t bad either. I did add more hardener than instructed to speed the process. I’ve used the clear casting resin before. It doesn’t get hot enough to destroy your model, but you can put it in the freezer to cool it so that you won’t have to worry about exothermic reaction with polystyrene. If you’re only going to submerse the bottom of the pontoons in the resin then, you shouldn’t have the problem with heat. Just pour your resin, then when it starts to cure push across the surface of the resin to pull it into a wave like form if that’s what you’re trying to replicate. This stuff is still soft enough before it cures to get a maleability to it. You can then submerge the plane pontoons into the resin once you have the basic form or body of water that you wish to replicate, then submerge the pontoons into it right before it cures completely. I would try to attempt this with either everyday items immersed in the solution, and try whatever means necessary to ensure the appearance that you’re hoping to achieve.
