We were chatting about the Victor over on the Aircraft forum, and a few of us decided that a group build would be in order, so we could pool our resources. Before you know it, I’d knocked up a badge:
We’ve got 3 or 4 joiners so far, and are looking for a few more. The rules? None - you’ll need a Victor of course, either from Revel or Matchbox - they’re the same kit anyway, and lots of filler!
Here’s a comprehensive list of the aftermarket items you can get for this amazing cold war bomber:
Flightpath update set, comprising resin replacement intakes, large PE fret of airframe, cockpit & air-brake parts.
If you want to start now, go right ahead, but I’ll be starting on the 1st September, IF my new workshop’s ready in time. There’s no end date, so if you’re not ready to start now, just pitch in anyway, pick up your badge, and then come back when you’re ready to start.
One thing I’d really like for this build is to accumulate a lot of research on the subject & dump it in my webspace. If anyone’s got pics & research, please let me have it, so I can share it with everyone. I have a whole heap of photos I took of Teasin’ Tina at Bruntingthorpe, and those will be going up for your entertainment shortly!
Cool Beans Mike
This is awesome at last a Victor build [:D]
well mines all in bits [:(] just got to do some cleaning up [;)]
Plus I might be bidding on a linburg kit as well
[:D]
Once I finish my cat I think Im gonna do another throw together project before tackling this one so I should be underway in about a month. Mike, wheres these pics that your takling about?
Ok Mike, go ahead and put me down as definite. The more I think about it, the more I like this idea. It’s a neat aircraft. Don’t expect much in the way of contributions until early next year though but I will try to pick away at it. I like that Flightpath update set so I’ll be ordering that at some point. Cheers.
LOL , well i washed all the oven cleaner off , broke one bit
[:(] ,
but that can easly be repaired,
so i resprayed with oven cleaner and gonna let her soak for 2 days
Good stuff Bstrump! Mate - you take your time & chip in when you can. Patience is something you learn in spades in our hobby [;)]
Sean - I hope you’re not sniffing that oven cleaner bud - you’ll end up flyin’ before the Victor does [:D]
I’ll be sat by the postbox Monday morning, hoping my Flightpath set AND the decals arrive… I’m nothing if not impatient! Now there’s a contradiction… hmmm…
Saw an ad for that in this month’s Scale Modelling International (no, I won’t be defecting), and it looks interesting. Personally, I’d have gone for 2 x 1/48th Monogram birds & used the resin conversion kit to “Zwilling” them up [;)]
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I unpacked the box to the Flightpath multi-media update last night:
The first thing out was an exquisite pair of replacement air-intakes, cast in a buttery colored resin. The detail & countour of them has to be seen to be believed![:0]
The fret of Photo-etched parts is smaller than expected, but the number of parts crammed into such a small space is phenomenal. There’s very little wasted brass by the time all the parts come off their fret.
Finally, there is a small bag of white-metal parts that are used to replace the tail fairing tips, the pitot tube, and auxilliary air-intakes on the top of the fuselage. These parts are probably the weakest of the set, and will require a little filing and trimming to fit to the relevant sections.
The instructions are the usual Flightpath 3D-CAD type, with detailed instructions to the side, for clarification of the drawings. The set will be a challenge, without shadow of a doubt, as I will have to hack open the leading edge wing root to attach the replacement intakes, and much test-fitting & sanding will be required. The replacement canopy framing will be a test of my abilities too, as it needs to be formed on a compound curve to fit with the contours of the original.
I’m very excited at the prospect of starting the build now, and will be working extra hard over the next few days to get my new workshop finished so I can crack on. [:D]
Damn Mike
thats one impressive kit !!!
i noticed that theres a instrument panel mind you thats going to be hidden once the glass is in
looks fun [:D]
mind you I’ll probably cover the intakes on my one [:p]
Hey - if you want some FOD covers, come to daddy! I’ve got a spare set on the PE fret, but I wonder whether they’d even fit on the godawful kit intakes… Want me to try them in place? If they’re a reasonable fit, you could always build up the edges & “fake” them in?
It is a rather impressive bit of stuff - well worth the price. [:D] I do like Mr Parkins… he makes exceptional kits…
Yeah I was reading Ted Taylors write up on the kit ,
so i will cover mine , too lazy to fit those [:D]
well she’s still bathing herself at the moment hopefully i’ll get started on her soon ,
oh watch out for the canopy ,
its weak as hell , but revell do the spares
