Handley Page Hampden 1/72 Airfix completed

Hello again,

I’ve updated my next bulid. I did post some pictures of this a week or so ago and this is what has happened. As I said in my post before, there is no detail whatsoever in the cockpit area and without any ref photos that I can find the inside has been completly made up!! I’ve had a rumage around in my tub of bits and bobs to come up with this. As it turns out, I don’t think its to bad[:)].

What I mean as in bits and bobs is the rack and ammo drums for what will be the twin Vickers machine guns and wires to simulate hydrolics and so forth.

As always comments and pointers are very welcome.

Keep safe

Lenny- Looking great so far! Those additions to the interior really add dimension to it- well done! [tup]

Looking good so far. Your interior work is very imaginative and shows excellent craftsmanship.

Nice work on the interior. Shame most of it wont be seen once you button it up.

Regards, Rick

Great job on the interior.

That is a huge improvement over the basic kit.

Karl

Thanks guys! [:)] Ive put it together and have nearly finished the bomb bay so with a bit of luck I should be able to post some more pics tomorrow or soon after.

Cheers guys for taking time out to take a look.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a model of the Hampden…

Great work so far! It’d be enlightening to see the Hampden in it’s three demensional form. I’ve only seen photographs.

Hi there Bodie,
Fine work Sir, who needs PE eh?
Real nice to see one of the RAF’s unsung heros, about all we had to stick it to the Germans at the outbreak of hostilites, brave guys who got into one of these.
Keep the pics coming, it’s looking very good so far.
All the best,
Mick C.

St. Louis, MO, USA connection???

Nice work so far on the model. From what I’ve read the plane was a deathtrap though…

[:)] Thanks fellas

I should be posting some more pics of my progress on the Hampden tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

There you go guys.

I’ve toyd around with the bomb bay doors due to again no detail. Anyway I’l get rid of the glue res and darken it up and then airbrush.

The bomb bay it self was easy enough. All I’m going to do now is lightly go over it with some silver paint to bring it out more.

Thanks again fellas for looking.[tup]

Is that Tamiya tape you are using for the ribs? Very creative work there- can’t wait to se more!

Yes it’s the ever faithful Tamiya tape that I’m using. Very universal and good to work with. I’m almost done with the fuselage, all assumbled and sanded down. I must say for the age of this kit I have done next to no sanding down once assembled. Its only been the injection marks and a couple of joins that I’ve had to do.

I’l post more soon

Very cool work so far! I always enjoy seeing the little widgety bits of scratchbuilding that people do. I’ve never seen a finished kit of a Hampden before… following with interest!

Kevin

Hi fellas me once again on an update on my Hampden.

Today I’ve assembled the main gear and painted them with black and a slight silver for that wear and tear look, will look better when I’ve got me camera sorted out!! Also the wings are together and I’ve attached them to the fuselage.

I’ve put on Sqn filler between the wings and fuselage and I hope to sand those down tonight (if the misses goes out) or tomorrow.

The Bomb bay doors are looking pretty good and I will photograph them near the time of application. I don’t want to tempt fate but all in all this has to be one of the best kits I’ve made and it’s been my most long awaited as well.Fingers crossed.

I’m going to be away next week for a few days but I’m hoping to have the build finished so I can start on painting it. I’m not rushing this one.

So far so awesome! She is turning out really great and I don’t blame ya fer not rushing! [tup]

Looking good Lenny.

Is this a new boxing of the kit, as I’ve been after one of these for years?

Karl

This one I got off ebay and this was boxed when I was 3 years old (1975) I don’t think airfix or any other company has ever done it since. If you want I’l have a look out for you on ebay?[?]

Its a shame really cause its an aircraft I think that was a start of an era when it came to service with Bomber Command and was used in overwelming odds to the crews that flew them.

I’m just about near now to start to paint it. I’m hoping to start on Saturday or Sunday before I go on holiday.

The last time that I saw this in the shops was the late 1980’s, when I picked one up. I found it a very enjoyable build and I am getting twitchy for one again reading this.
