Hi ship modelers. I would like to ask a question if I may. Do any of you know if there are kits available of U.S. or R.N. gunboats from the era of the China Station? These unique vessels fascinate me and I would love to build one. Thanks for your time.
Iron Shipwright sells a resin & brass Panay in 1:192 scale

Loose Cannon made one in 1:700 scale
I’m working from memory, but I’m pretty sure Combrig and Iron Shipwright sell quite a few, a lot of Spanish boats that were repurposed for that. Like the fictional San Pablo.

Thanks Ed. I’ll check that out.
Ta Bill. I will follow these up. Having read the Sand Pebbles several times, (and seen the movie twice), this would be a great build. I also love Douglas Reeman’s various descriptions of this period. Incidently, I posted your book a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks, Rob. It’s on a slow boat from China, I guess.
I looked into Combrig, the one that immediately came up was USS Helena.
If you haven’t built a resin kit before, Combrig is a good source. As is Iron Shipwright.

Haven’t seen any reviews of their kits, but they do have some.
Down towards the bottom there’s the pages for a basic paper model of the movie San Pablo.

Thank you all very much folks. I am now going to follow up on all of these suggestions.
Thats funny! I hope it’s not going anywhere near China mate, they don’t love Aussies very much. Apparently we’ve upset them and they think we’re no better than the Americans… LOL!
