GSI Mr Hobby Aqueous - masking and drying time

GSI Mr Hobby Aqueous experts out there…how long should I wait for GSI Aqueous to dry before masking over it using “Blu Tack” type products?

I’m a recent convert to GSI Aqueous line of paints…very airbrush user friendly. Great Luftwaffe Rlm colors…Ral selection can be better though…

I used to use the Aqueous line regularly when my local shops carried it. But I never masked hard edged schemes with it. Always soft edge freehand, which I could spray a new color over the previous color in the time that it took me to clean my airbrush from the previous color and prep up the next color. Using Gunze thinner it sprays superbly.

But I would say to wait a few hours at least before masking over it.

I waited just an hour yesterday and masked an area on the bottom of my Hetzer, did not lift any paint when taken off. I also used Aqueous thinner which I understand speeds up drying time (alcohol based). Masked off the remainder of the tank, painted last coat and removed the Blu tack without any problems.

great paint!

Yes it is a great paint. It was my go to acrylic for airbrushing until the labeling brouhaha stopped the importing here to local shops several years back. Superb adhesion, tough as nails once cured, and an excellent selection of colors matched to various standards.

It is my main line of paint, has been for years. they do dry slowly, especially the gloss colors. I usually wait 2-4 days to put masking tape over it for any length of time. Sounds long, but I always have plenty to do in the meantime, and their positives out weigh the negatives. Btw, Sprue Brothers is now carrying them again in their new style label form.

Thanks for the heads up Nathan! I may need to order some colors…
